Not sure of the reason for the visit but I don't find it impossible that it did. A few years ago we had a Lufthansa B727 and I've also seen a Lufthansa B737 at JFK. The B727 could have been sold and leaving the IB fleet? Stopping at JFK on it's way to the desert or some US based MX facility.
BTW-Iberia no longer uses the DC-9's at MIA, they are now MD-87's.

Carnival also painted one of its A300's in Ladeco colors and it mainly operated the Miami-JFK route this was like 5 or 6 years ago . This was as a connection to Ladecos Santiago-Miami flight .

I'm pretty sure that there are 727s in BA colors because they are being opperated by Comair, a low cost domestic airline in South Africa. I think they are owned by British Airways and that's why you see those 727s still in British Airways colors. I don't think that British Airways itself still flies the 727.

MAH4546: IBERIA has already replaced the md-87 based in Miami by Airbus 319.
It's very strange that of the 727 in JFK. The 727 fleet will disappear by the end of this years, but we never have had a 727 based in JFk.
Perhaps it was a stop in its way to Arizona.....
Next week I will fly in a 727 for the last time. It will be a pity. I adore that airliner...... and it has been the central element of our short-medium haul flights
I will miss then, even though I also alike the Airbus 32S family.
