Hey Guys:
As some of you may know, I am a big OA fan, and I must say OA has a very beautiful livery. I did however notice how faded these machines look, and since there about ten years old, I am sure there due in for some sort of heavy check? My question is does anyone know when these birds will get re-painted and perhaps maybe a new product installed on their A340s?

I think they are at least 12 yrs old. I would venture out and guess that the new owners of Olympic (as of Oct 2009) have to first decide if they are to keep them for the long term before any decision to paint them is arrived at.

Hi SXDFC.
As you probably know, the OA group was recently sold to Marfin Ivestment Group. The four A340s were not part of the deal, since they belong to the Greek state and not OA per se.
We do know that MIG is in talks with Airbus, Boeing, ATR and Bombardier to replace the entire short- and medium-haul fleet as soon as possible.
However, MIG has been very quiet about OA's long-haul operations. What we know is that they will probably keep JFK and introduce a new business class product, but the future of YUL, YYZ and JNB is quite uncertain and nothing has been mentioned about the fleet yet. IMHO they will probably reach an agreement with the government to keep using the A340s since they're quite young and the only obvious replacement options require ETOPS certification (A330 and 767).
As you can see everything is very vague right now. We'll know much more in the fall, when MIG actually takes over the airline.
