Vandals destroyed big parts of the L-1049 exposed at the visitors' center at the Munich Franz-Josef-Strauss-Airport in the night to the 12th of April. It was undergoing mayor restaurations after being placed for eight Years at the foot of the "monkeys' rock" They ripped out most of the interior paneling, cockpit instruments (most of them original parts from 1953!) and smashed several windows. The damage is about 50.000 Euro, but worse still, one can imagine how difficult it is to provide spare parts for a plane of this age... Hence my concerm: Besides that I just LOVE beautiful planes, my father was too restaurating this partikular one in his free time (he started his career in the 60ies with working on this type as a mechanic!!!). And because of the unlikelieness of getting hold of such old spare parts, it seems now very unlikely that this plane will be saved.
So, PLEASEPLEASPLEASE if ANYONE knows, where to achieve ANY spare parts, PLEASE e-mail me, so maybe I can collect such information or at least forward it to the munich airport officials. The price wouldn't be that interesting, since behind this project are as well the Airport Munich as the Deutsche Lufthansa an their chairmen Willi Hermsen und Jürgen Weber (both personaly!!!)! et!

Lovers and friends of Veteran planes, PLEASE HELP.

In deep grave, but with some hope

Markus Obermüller

That is very dissrespectful. I know to most it is just a hunk of metal that was built a while ago. But to us on here it is a peice of art. I am in love with the L1049 that sits on the north end of the field in Salina Kansas. It is not flyable and was to be restored to flyable conditions but however owns the aircraft has stalled. Probably due to the lack of parts. It appears to be an Ex eastern aircraft. I really dont know. It is silver with with styled red tail tips. Sorry to hear about that incident.

I am sure they can get the spare parts to repair and restore the aircraft back to flying condition. Can't they get the spare parts from the Military Aircraft Storage & Disposition Center at Davis-Monthan AFB outside Tucson Arizona, where large numbers of retired US Navy and USAF C-121 Constellations are stored ready to be scrapped?
