D-AIHZ Delivered; How Many More A340s?

Posted (5 years 7 months 3 weeks 1 day 8 hours ago) and read 7400 times:

On Thursday, May 7th, Lufthansa took delivery of its latest A340-600, LN 1005.

How many A340s are still to be delivered? I know that there are no A340 "Classics (-2/300) remaining to be delivered and I doubt if there are any A340-500s, but perhaps a few more -600s - for IB, LH, VS? (I know there's on aircraft for IB which is in storage at TLS).

But how many are still to be delivered before we can say, "this is the last A340 ever?"

A340-500 (6)

IT 3
VIP 3

A340-600 (14)

EY 3
IB 5
VS 6

IT, VS, and even IB might not take what they ordered some time ago.

Sad times for this great quad.

Yes, I'm surprised to see IT there; I recall discussing this on a thread in relation to Kingfisher and I believe that the 345s are not going to be taken. I wonder if this agreement might be included in the recent firming up of the IT 358s, i.e. as part of this deal, the outstanding 345 orders will be allowed to lapse.

I think IB could have a deal with Airbus and change some of this A346 for A330 and A350,

we will know more soon, Paris Air Show is close and there are rumours about that.

Lufthansa would normaly have by now 26 aircraft as regs go from D-AIHA-Z. I don't know if even more aircraft are scheduled to arrive or if that was it.

Yes and no. They've delivered getting on for 380 with a few more to come. There's no disgrace in that.

Those who deny that the A330 and A340 came off the same drawing board will suggest that 400 (-ish) is a matter of failure but those who see the strategy of Airbus in the 1980s to produce TA9 and TA11 together on a common platform will suggest that the A340 has more than paid its way.

There can't be more than a trickle or orders left to come but Airbus will have made good money on their 400 or so A340s.

They have 24 after the delivery of D-AIHZ. For whatever reason, D-AIHG and D-AIHJ were skipped.

Registration d-ai"HJ" would be highly inappropriate for a german carrier for historic reasons. Similarly, authorities don't allow "HJ" plates for cars (HJ was an abbreviation for the nazi youth organization).

Nope. D-AISG and D-AISJ are both A321-200s flying their way through Europe.

LH was supposed to receive another two A333's however this order was transfered to LX as they are getting now 11 instead of 9 A333's
