I'm not too sure about when or where they will be retiring NWA's fleet of DC10's, but I hope it's not soon! I love those planes, watching, hearing, and flying in them. Those colors look so awesome on that type of plane. Does anybody know when they will be retiring them, or where the 'water cannon salute' if any will take place? Hopefully we can convince NWA to fit the planes out with new parts and fly them for years to come.

The NW DC10s look fine as long as they are kept clean, but they rarely are.

NW will start replacing the DC-10s this year (3 -40s are going). From 2002 the 757-300 will replace the DC10-40s, from 2003 the A330-300 will replace the DC-10-30s.

Greetings Big grin

I had the same question on Canadian Airlines as well....

We want to see NWA & Canadian with 777s hopefully.

New colour on Canadian, and current on NWA.

Newsflash to you Baec777 : Canadian Airlines no longer exists. Air Canada owns all the assets, which includes the aircraft. Air Canada is unfortunately in the sack with Airbus, so you'd only see A340-500/600 orders.. .

The two engine FBW A330 is more economical to operate and maintain over the three engine DC-10. Hopefully NW will order the A340-500/600 to replace the 747-200 Classics because it will have the same cockpit commonality as the A330 so their flight crews will easily be able to fly both aircraft.

I would argue that the NW DC10s are mostly kept very clean.
