Hi all,
Noticed on the Paine Field site that Delta's new bird N708DN has taken its first flight, however the widget on the rudder of the tail is still white. I thought that a rudder had to be painted and balanced before fitting...?
Is this for an alternate livery, or for their SYD-LAX startup, or have they just not painted it yet?

The rudder is painted . The widget just wasn't filled in as yet. It would be my guess that the weight of the paint already on the rudder was sufficient.

Adding the paint to a new rudder is not difficult.
The rudder weight can be recalculated.
It is a little harder when the rudder has been painted several times - add some point they have to be stripped and sanded and repainted.
But new rudders are generally just have to be recalculated.

You could also just paint the widget blue, the same color as it is on the tail.

There were quite a few threads on the number of LR's DAL was to receive this year, and I thought I saw the final number was either 3 or 5 with the last one arriving far earlier than this a/c. Can someone provide the final number to be received this year and when the last one is slated to arrive? Thanks

AHHHH how I wish they would do this!! I miss the blue and red widget! --- once we get them to do that, we just need them to get 727s and L1011s in the fleet again haha!

7108 is that last one for 09. They get 2 in 2010 and they have or or 2 options for 2010.
