On the first page of the Long Island Newsday, that Continental 737-500 is taking off with our harried troops held in China. That's got to be a heck of an ad for Continental.
(Personally though, it would have been more symbolic to have a American Airlines jet whisk them back to Guam. )
But seriously though... what do you think happened? The airflow theory is valid scientifically but at the same time, I'm an American who doesn't believe everything he reads without caution. Of course both superpowers will place cause on the other. Any theories or thoughts?

That was a 737-824 Reg. N27246
My guess is that it was the closest available aircraft in that area since it was probably operation for Continental Micronesia out of Guam.

The aircraft was a 737-800, not a -500. What a nice picture though. I can't imagine the elation the crew of that EP-3 felt when they heard the "thud" of the gear finally retracting into the well of the 737. You can see the relief in their eyes. A great picture.
