Last night I flew ISP-MDW on WN. I think we departed on 33L (I thought I could see the NYC skyline out of my window as we banked away from ISP). We then turned to the west and flew out to the edge of Long Island, I looked on Google Maps and it looks like we turned to the south at around FOK (Francis S. Gabreski Airport) and then swung back around to the east onto MDW. I kind of thought this was a weird departure and when I looked on Flightaware, it looked like other ISP-MDW flights had the same departure (I didn't look at the other flights to compare). Is this normal, was that routing to avoid the JFK/LGA airspace as we climbed out?

Based on the winds at ISP last night at 969's departure time, it looks like that's why runway 33 was used...

Thanks. Hopefully my complaint that I submitted to them about a luggage problem will be answered just as quick.  Smile

WN actually uses runway 33? I thought that was only for the smaller planes....

33L is used by WN and the bizjets and 33R is used by the smaller planes, that is what I could tell from watching the activity as I waited for my flight.
