Thought it was worth noting that despite the FedEx hub not being open yet, GSO is seeing some major Cargo frequencies increases.

Looks like FedEx is making 4-5 daily runs to New Bern, Wilmington NC, Norfolk, Roanoke, Asheville and Hickory with Mountain Air Cargo. And the previous 3x a day flights to Indianapolis and Memphis have expanded to 5x per day with Aquadilla, San Juan, Miami, Newark and Baltimore added in.

To add to that, ABX Air is making multiple daily runs to Aquadilla, Wilmington OH and Baltimore.

Even UPS is running more flights it seems. Easy for me to hear the extra flights as I live under the approach in High Point and can easily jump on Flight Aware to see whats going on.

Since the hub isn't open, curious to know what's going on.

I'm not sure what's going on either but I like it! As i was leaving work last night, a GB 762 inbound from BWI was landing. Neat to see. I thought GB was on its way out? Wonder why they are running these flights through GSO. Am also eagerly awaiting the official opening of the FX hub. Drove by there last week and that building is impressive. While the commercial flights leave a lot to be desired, the rest of the airport seems to be humming right along.

I noticed also UPS seems to have an extra flight in per day now too!?!

I got part of my question answered. Caribbean Transportation Services, which did use Tradewinds solely, was folded into FedEx Express with operations in Miami, Greensboro and Indianapolis. So that explains the San Juan and Aguadilla flights. But makes me wonder if Tradewinds is basically gone (you'll notice two of their A300s parked by Market St sitting since Friday on top of the ones they are parting out).

Curious since you're at the airport, are the ABX Air and FedEx flights using the Cargo area or the FedEx hub area?

I read where ABX Air is contracted by DHL now. So, although DHL canned services for USA, looks like they are making ABX Air make their runs for them now?!?

I work at the intersection of I-40 & 68. Great place to see planes.
Anyway i am thinking the 5X is a through flight from SDF via ROA.

That is interesting about Tradewinds joining up with FX. Their headquarters in Airpark North looks like they are in business, but who knows?

I read that FX will move their current ramp operation to the new building next month.

As for GB i assume they are still using the "old" cargo area? And I know we used to get the yellow DHL DC9/727's in here but now just seems to be GB 762's. One in just tonight from MIA. Interesting. Would like to hear what is up with these too.

As for the "old" cargo area, arent the planning to tear that down and build a new cargo area at the southwest end of the airport for use by UPS, DHL, Air Cargo Carriers, etc?
