So do I. I used to visit friends in SNA from BUR as an unaccompanied minor and the PSA staff and FAs always too excellent care of me both ways.

Plus they looked hot in their miniskirts and go-go boots in the ads.  hearts

I loved that airline. I few on their 737s, 727s, BA-146s and even the Electra Bargin Bird.
It was always fun boarding exiting from the read of the plane in Burbank. They were the first Frequent Flyer Program I belonged to. Once in a while, they would give us 500 miles just for the fun of it. The Smileliners even went to Stockton, my home town.

And how about that fare of $6.35 from SAN to LAX, and $19.85 from SAN to SFO!

Those were the days of civil aviation...  old

Miss ya, PSA!

I grew up in Southern California and loved seeing them when I went spotting as a young kid. It just wasn't the same when they merged with US.

I never had the opportunity to travel on the REAL PSA.
I did fly on a ex-PSA 727-200 in 1981 - N534PS - right after Eastern bought the plane.
What an unexpected treat then ... and even more so now.

I sure miss them after living in SO CAL in the 1970's. They flew over my house in LGB all the time.

Great thread.

In some ways, PSA is alive and well today:

Having flown on "PSA's" US Express a couple weeks back, it's an insult to not only the original PSA but to US Airways that RJ's in such poor shape are even in the fleet. Pathetic is the word.

There will be only one PSA....and it's only a bright memory in aviation history.

I'd logged many miles between FAT and LAX over the years on those birds. One great, great airline.

Here is a commercial for that advertising campaign:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJ6sd_6baKg

I thought this was interesting.....

However, according to the book "PSA: Poor Sailors' Airline":

"A new advertising agency was hired and its new sales slogan for the airline rubbed PSA employees the wrong way. "We've Got To Be Tough To Make You Smile" did not make much sense to employees who had to live up to it. PSA crews and ground staff had never had to be 'tough.' They had made passengers smile by naking a PSA flight a happy experience, not by giving them a tough time."

I though that was interesting.

Best deal I got on PS was June of '86 MD-80 ABQ-LAX and D9S LAX-SFO-BOI for $59. I flew PS many times ONT-SFO, BOI-SFO, and a SCK-LAX rt in 1979. I really enjoyed them.

Yes, and I am beyond happy that US dedicated one aircraft to the great airline. Something that I just still can't get over.

Actually, I understand they were happy with them. I still think the 146 looked best in PSA colors.

It's my understand from their history that so many complaints were recevieved from the six across seating that they modified it to five-abreast---thus destroying the business model used in evaluating them.

When asked about the reliabilty of the four-holer, I believe the president's response was "we wanted to throw it in the Bay..."

I'll assume this was during the introduction...and not years later (?).
