Hey All,

I was just curious to know if anyone could shed some light why a SQ B744 has been stationed over at the VIP ramp at Sydney International for the past week???

Has this aircraft broken down is still awaiting parts to be flown in from BOEING???

It suffered an unfortunate incident with a truck and its front cargo hold door, Boeing said it should not be flying until repaired so with the help of QF engineering and some spares being flown in: it will be fixed. It's been here a while though- but I think people are repairing her as we speak.

Thanks for the information champ... I was curious to know what occurred with this particular aircraft... Lucky this didn't occur with the daily A380!

Was going to ask this very question actually! Has the replacement aircraft been a 744 as well?

Aircraft involved in the incident is 9V-SPG. 9V-SPA which was withdrawn from the active fleet early in May was put back into service to cover the grounded acft.

The aircraft in question was 9V-SPG. They brough 9V-SPA back into service after it had been withdrawn to cover.

This aircraft was supposed to SQ 220 SYD-SIN last Saturday 23 May.

I was on the SQ232 that same day. They moved as many pax as possible from 220 to 232, and 232 ended up leaving an hour late. SQ had no idea who was on 232. 10 people who were moved from 220 to 232 failed to board. And then in business class they didn't even have a passenger manifest. After take off the FAs walked around asking everyones name, so they knew what to call us. To make matters even worse, the KrisWorld packed it in shortly after take off. There were some SERIOUSLY pissed people let me tell you.

My hat goes off to SQ though: they kept everyone up to date, apologised for the delay, and handled the difficult pax well. A truly classy airline.

The loss of SPG from the system caused problems for at least 24 hours. Later that day SQ217 back to MEL and SQ231 back to SYD were both ~3 hours late. Again, some very unhappy people in the SilverKris lounge at SIN let me tell you.
