If you ask me - BA = rip off nowadays. New WT has been put in really to increase fares by reducing number of real Economy seats. All in favour of BA increasing premium passengers and shaking off discounted ticket holders.
New BA Miles is also ripping off its BA Exec. Club members. From about 4,600 AirMiles I had - enough for 5 return Club Europe tickets to Paris (say), they were converted to some ridiculous no. of BA Miles which translates into about 3 Economy tickets to Paris. My last return ticket to Kuala Lumpur gave me only 1,600 BA Miles (and I was in CW - the whole system is rubbish and I can't even be bothered to 'Claim' my lost Miles on the last flights. I've just changed FFPs to Star Alliance and KLM Flying Dutchman instead.

Mas777,
Your first paragraph is mostly correct, but remember they have a responsibility to shareholders, and thus it is only by wooing the Business traveller that they can make profits.
I seriously doubt whether their discount or Economy pax generate any profit at all; thus, why should they be concerned about them? Economically, it doesn't make sense!
What they are doing, IMO is very clever; that is, reducing the low-cost seats on their a/c to a minimum, and increasing the proportion of premium seats on any given a/c. (Like you said).
In any case, most travellers know that BA is always going to be the expensive option, when faced with a number of other possible airlines.
As for the BA Miles, I think it is actually quite a good little reward for sticking with BA, wherever you fly. You can also collect them in various other ways too (Sainsbury's).
I think there must have definitely been a flaw in the system if they only awarded you 1,600 BA miles for a J-class return to KL!
You should have been awarded double the distance LHR-KUL in BA Miles+ 160 Executive Club points!!
Perhaps you were travelling on a special ticket??
To be honest, it is only worth joining if you are a regular traveller on BA or Oneworld AND fly on a full-fare J or F ticket
Rgds,
CP
ps You need a minimum of 13,000 BA Miles for a free Economy return (BA) to Paris, Milan, Prague or Geneva.
