Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has any information on why an EK 777 landed in NAS yesterday? My parents live under the approach path for NAS, and all of a sudden I see the 777's red under belly, and I was shocked! Possibly some charter? Diversion?

Thanks,

Are you sure it was not a LTU A330, that would be more likely as a charter flight to a holiday destination. ?

ah ! the sweet smell of aviation kerosene

I am 100% sure, I even read the "Emirates" titles on the 777's belly!

And apparently, there was a LX A332 in NAS here yesterday too, as discussed in the Swiss Aviation Thread, must be some company getaway or something!

Cheers,

Per Flightaware it was an Emirates SkyCargo 777-200 LRF.

The fact that it could have been a 777F is possible, as I was right under the plane, not enabling me to see wether it was a passenger version.

Cheers...

It was an Emirates 777-200LR pax version, came in from Dubai, and left again for Dubai at 19:20 EDT. Registration A6-EWJ:

It wasn't the only special guest yesterday, we also had a Swiss A330-200, HB-IQA, coming in from Zurich, which did spend the night, and as I didn't have the time to go out to the airport today, I don't know what happened to it.

My guess is that these movements have something to do with the FIFA Executive Committee Meeting (this past weekend) and the FIFA World Congress starting tomorrow.

It's a charter flight from Dubai. It is for some major soccer meeting.

That would make sense, as FIFA's headquarters are in Zurich.

Yeah, I got some, but the weather was so horrible, I doubt they'll be on a.net. Can't say for sure though, I'm still waiting for my new computer - I'm not about to edit photos on a 10 inch netbook...

Exactly what came to my mind, I was just in Nassau and saw Atlantis prepare for the meeting.

Did the 777 do Dubai-Nassau nonstop?
Maybe there was also a secret delegation on board and Nassau is about to become EK's gateway to the Caribbean  Smile

Surprised they could spare an LR model for the charter. Seems like quite a random and expensive charter from DXB. What were 200 football delegates doing in DXB? anyone with more information would be appreciated

When i landed in DXB on Sunday (31 May) there were huge welcome boards for the FIFA congress members or something like that. And i was at the transfer areas...... Emirates being a sponsor of FIFA was ferrying the delegates to Nassau connecting via DXB.....

That makes sense. Also explains why there were only those two unusual visitors.

Looks like a Long-Ranger Triple-7 flight. For the arrival and departure flights take a look at the links provided. Would love to see this bird at MIA one of these days (at least for a Charter trip).

Oh, this is another nice tid bit about the Emirates flight... We were standing at the end of RWY14 waiting for it to land (and realised too late it was rerouted to land on 09, because another plane broke down further down the runway, out of sight), and we were listening to it on the scanner.

Now, obviously, NAS ATC is not all that familiar with Emirates, but it would appear that the lady who was on the tower frequency had never even heard of the airline. When the flight first contacted tower, she called the flight "Embraer."

The next thing you heard was a very indignant pilot pointing out that they were *not* an Embraer. So for the rest of the flight, until she handed them over to ground, our tower lady kept addressing them as "Emeralds."

hahahah classic but also a tad worrying given how many carriers have similar sounding names and callsigns.

You got to love our countrymen.

It would be nice however if Emirates would consider NAS as their Caribbean gateway.  Smile

FIFA headquarters is in ZRH, thus explaining the LX flight.

The Airbus A332 (HB-IQA) plane has not returned to ZRH today and will also not return tomorow so depending on how long the congress will last the crew chosen for this flight will have up to one week of paid holiday...

I noticed on Sunday after they parked at the gate that the #2 engine (#1 was out of sight, but expect the same there) was immediately covered up...
