Man To Live On Air Tran Plane For Month

It sounds pretty crazy, but the man is planning to live on an Air Train B737 for a month. Link: http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?se...42551&rss=rss-wabc-article-6842551

I don't know how he is paying for all the trips. It must be really expensive, unless Air Tran is the "sponsor". Is this just a stunt or what?

I also saw a photo of him sleeping in the overhead bin at nights. He is just not leaving the airplane at all for a month, unless when the plane goes for maintenance checks, he has to leave the plane.

It appears to be a publicity stunt for the in-flight Wi-Fi.

I'm sure there will be some contingency for maintenance. The big one is test flights; these are essential crew only, which are the pilots, and occasionally, a mechanic.

"Living" on a plane for a month? There's a bit of a contradiction there, imo.

Surely he'll get off to shower and eat. He can't subsist on airline food for a month.

Personally, I feel sorry for the guy. He must be nuts.

Support Airliners.net - become a First Class Member!

When you read the details, these types of "records" or "contests" often include provisions that aren't well publicized but that allow for breaks for such things as showers, fresh air, restroom breaks, etc, as appropriate.

Obviously restroom breaks are not an issue in this particular instance, but rest assured that if one were to get the details of this stunt from AirTran, one would find out he is allowed a set amount of time every day to go into a terminal or airport hotel to change, shower and quite likely eat real food.

If you would like to give me a free trip to "unexciting San Diego", I'll be happy to take you up on that.  Smile

It'd be one thing if you could do this up in their Biz Class seats, but sitting on AirTrans Y seats for all month.... Owwww.  tired

25 NWADC9 : Is it just me or does he have a few screws loose upstairs? Not for the idea of living on a plane for a month, but have you seen his videos?
26 B747forever : Exactly, I mean where does he think he will be flying? It will probably be death boring after a few days to fly back and forth from ATL to airports w
27 Citrus1 : Well since the GoGo inflight WiFi (which this trip is helping to promote) only works in the US makes cents to me that they would stay within the US.
28 Wjcandee : Seems like a good promotion for Airtran and the inflight Wi-Fi. Seems like Airtran is committed to rolling this out to the whole fleet faster than the
29 AirbusA6 : Of course, if he did this on an EK A380 he could shower on board If I was going to do this, then an SQ ULH A345 would be more fun...
30 Fxramper : Wonder after 30 June what the mileage will add up to for his flights? Best reply so far! See below.
31 Wjcandee : And he'll probably have more flight hours than the average Colgan f/o.
32 Aviateur : Dumb. If he'd done this on an Emirates A380 he'd at least have an on-board shower. Heck, at least pick a carrier with some decent IFE. PS
33 Wjcandee : I love the XM, and now I apparently can use my Netflix subscription to stream movies over Go-Go. So that doesn't suck. Oh, wait. On United I could se
34 NWADC9 : OUCH! I think the part about international travel might be an issue here. That and price XM, Go-Go, windows, and an inflight magazine isn't enough fu
35 Post contains links KBUF : http://www.markonairtran.com has the legs he'll be flying.
36 BOStonsox : His blog said he'll be flying BOS-ROC. How will he do that? They don't fly that route anymore!
37 Travatl : Oh for crying out loud - this is an AirTran PR stunt. Enjoy. "To promote Gogo In-flight Internet, the "Mark on AirTran" promotion will begin on Monday
