East Line (Russia) has announced that it will start passanger and cargo operations to Canada. Nothing was said about destinations in Canada, dates, or aircraft types. Im guessing service from Moscow, probably SVO. But with what aircraft for it's passanger operation? IL-86 is my most likely guess, or looking ahead, possibly IL-96s.

Although I realize that the IL-86 only has a range in the 1,000nm area, the aircraft has been used quite a few times over long-range routes, for example SU to JFK back in the early '90s, making a stop in the U.K., and sometimes going Westbound, it would have to stop and refuel in Gander. But, I doubt an airline like East Line will be able to afford the lease of, lets say a 757, 767, or A330.

To these East Line flights.
I have heard that the initial flights to be offered will be cargo only, using Il-76TDs, but this may be sometime off.
If, and when, passenger flights are initiated....forget the Il-86. I say this because 1) the aircraft is not suited to this length flight and 2) East Line operates the Il-86 on lucrative charter/scheduled flights to Turkey, Cyprus and the Middle East. Initial aircraft used for pax ops would probably be an Il-62.
Further down the track, East Line might acquire Russian-only aircraft such as the Il-96-300/M to operate services. They will NEVER buy an Airbus or Boeing aircraft. This has been stated many times by the company's director general.
As to whether East Line would be able to afford any such aircraft purchase, you have to realise just how powerful East Line is in Russia. East Line and Aeroflot are the two most powerful airlines when it comes to Russian federal politics. East Line and Aeroflot almost succesfully stifled the merger of Sibir Airlines and Vnukovo Airlines (which will create the 2nd largest Russian airline). You also have to remember, that the airline is just one small part of the East Line group. The East Line group operates Domodedovo Airport in Moscow (it is not Domodedovo Airlines as most people would tend to tihnk), and DME has just recently undergone a US$100 million upgrade, making DME a viable alternative to the congested Sheremetyevo (shown by Air Malta and Transaero switching their MOW flights to DME from SVO). So funding would not be a problem for East Line if they were wanting to buy/lease a 767, A300 or even an A380. But as I mentioned before, the East Line director general is a staunch supporter of the Russian aviation industry and has ruled out a "western" aircraft purchase.
Anyway, don't forget that this is only an announcement ALLOWING East Line to operate to Canada. It does not mean that they will actually fly.
