I work near YYZ and I have been watching what looks like a larger biz/regional aircraft that has be doing go arounds over and over for a couple hours now on all differnt runways. What is he up to? ILS testing maybe?

Probably a NAV Canada CRJ200 doing ILS testing.

It's probably a NavCanada Challenger doing ILS calibration approaches. They seem to do them every year at YYZ.

Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

They do different runways at different times - a few weeks back it was the 33/15 combos. The aircraft stays low and just does different approaches as part of its analysis. Kinda cool to see.

Yes, I saw it too; twice on Rwy 5L/5R. It made a very sharp turn as it went around. It was nice to see but scary at the same time. It made a go around just as there was an aircraft on its takeoff roll on the same runway. Or it could have been on the parallel since they are very close.

As others have already said, it is nothing to worry about. Those NAV Canada flyboys have a fun job, well at least the part where they get to break away and kick in the thrust!

Always fun to watch them here in Calgary when they are testing the ILS.

Those are nearly always done in simulators because of the cost/risk associated with doing actual flights.

You can fail a lot more stuff in the sim.

They are scheduled to do some tomorrow, so I suspect they were doing them today too.

After seeing some pics of the NAV Canada CRJ200, I am fairly sure that was the same plane. However I was a little to far away to say for sure.

Maybe when Big Momma landed yesterday she knocked something out of wack along with ripping up sod.  Smile
