I dropped my mom off at CDG at noon today for her 2:15 flight to Reikjavik and connection to Boston, but just got a text from her that a half hour after take-off they had a booming sound on the left wing, and then some smoke in the cabin. She didn;t give many details, but said she remained calm. The pilots were quick to come on and say that they were going to put down somewhere, which ended up being Gatwick.

In light of the AF tragedy, I doubt anyone on the plane felt good about what happened.

My mom was a bit dazed, so I didn;t press her for details. Has any news of this emerged?
