I remember US Airways unveiled a logo for US Airways Caribbean, they used to use it all the time, and I remember advertisements saying "fly USAirways Caribbean". What ever happened to that? They used to be part of the "GoCaribbean Network" I can't seem to find it, but I remember it had the regular US flag logo and letters and then after it said US Airways, it would say Caribbean in cool blue cursive. What happened?

Big version: Width: 200 Height: 68 File size: 2kb

The GoCaribbean Network page @ USAirways.com has been disconnected.

It was a partnership with Caribbean Sun, Caribbean Star, WinAir and BahamasAir when US Airways focused on expanding internationally in the Caribbean. This was a pre-merger US Airways restructuring plan and I believe it disintegrated around the same time the new AWA management team shut down the FLL focus city in 2007.

That same year, Caribbean Star merged with LIAT to create the new LIAT, while sister airlines Caribbean Sun ceased operations. WinAir only codeshares now with US instead of a full partnership. I know that back in 2007 the old Dividend Miles guy, John Reistrup, was working on creating a partnership with the new LIAT based in Antigua, but he is no longer with the company. Besides, US only serves Antigua on a weekly basis from CLT during the off season. So it doesn't really makes sense for either airline to draw out the contracts as feed would be minimal and not worth the hassle of creating new signage continuously announcing the partnership.

BahamasAir is the only real GoCaribbean partner left, though the GoCaribbean name is no longer used. BahamasAir still codeshares with US extensively and DM members earn miles on BahamasAir operated flights.

Yeah, I was a big thing!

My first trip with US Airways was to CZM via CLT was in 2003 and I remember the turquoise blue "Go Caribbean" signage everywhere. Each gate had destination magazines for the specific Caribbean destination. If was quite grand...

I don't know if AA even did/does that in MIA with their Caribbean flights, thought I know Eagle has it's own magazine which focus on Caribbean destinations/shopping.

CLT Saturdays are still busy with US Airways flights to the Caribbs, but not like it used be...

US Airways used to have a far more impressive network to the Caribbean, but in the past three years they've torn a lot of it apart. Many destinations remain, but not at frequencies like it used to be.

I am looking at a map right now, and they dont fly to Grenada, Treasure Cay, Marsh Harbour, North Eletheura, Governors Harbour, and Kingston

I can't speak for Grenada or Kingston, but I'm pretty sure that you can book a US ticket to fly to TCB, MHH, ELH, and GHB through UP. Once upon a time Piedmont (Henson) flew those routes from MIA, FLL, and even PBI - we're talkin' 80s-90s.

Mesa was flying them as late as 2006.

Really! Now that's interesting. I knew that US Express had a few routes still going in Florida into the 2000's, but didn't know they went on for so long. Did US Express ever start that FLL-GGT service that was proposed before the merger?

It was switched to CLTGGT, but didn't last long.

Lately, they've been adding Caribbean destinations from BOS. I believe they ran 8 this past winter- PLS, PUJ, NAS, AUA, CUN, GCM, MBJ, SJU.

Like MAH4546 said, the Caribbean services have been mostly cut back to a Saturday only basis.

However, they are not running BDA this summer from BOS. An interesting route for US, MCO-BDA is again operated on a Saturday only basis this summer.

I think US should start POS. Trinidad & Tobago is a leisure/business destination that would work from CLT.

CLT-POS would never work for US. If it don't work from ATL, it won't work from CLT.

The FLL focus was actually just an up and down network. I don't believe US had aircrafts based at FLL. Fligts would fly into FLL from NE origins in the morning and head out to the Caribbean/Central America (inc. Mexico) in the early afternoon and reverse in the afternoon. IIRC, few of the hub flights didn't continue south (PHL, CLT, PIT, DCA). Those flights mostly turned back to hub. IIRC it was mostly BOS, LGA, EWR, BWI and BDL I believe. Others can correct me if I'm wrong.
