If demand is dropping, it makes sense to reduce capacity... however, I have to say, I am quite shocked with this news since they only started operations a few months ago. Also, I see summer school break rather as an opportunity to fill the cabin with tourists...

If they temporarily suspend all flights to/from Brussels, could that mean they are just doing very bad on this route in general? Does anybody have insight on the loads lately?

Thanks,

Flanders.

Well, considering the current climate worldwide and in Europe, guess LH was a bit too optimistic is setting up LH Italia, with the frequencies they did.

I guess they have not had the demand they expected after the initial 'lure' that people get of flying a new airline. Guess they are just taking the steps necessary to break-even or not lose as much money as flying empty planes and hopefully focus on filling up the rest.

Though, wont LH Italia be flying new routes or they are just staying with the same routes for now?

Milan - Brussels SUSPENDED

Why did they even start this route if SN BRUSSELS is operating?

Are these two the services operated by bmi?

I totally agree. It's a sign that it's not going well at all. Flights betwen France/UK/Belgium/Spain and Italy are usually very well filled during the summer

Well, LHI began with 3 dailies into BRU. Then reduced to 2xd at the end of April, now completely suspended for 2 months.
Probably not their best-performing route.

To some extend the expansion may have been a bit too aggressive or optimistic, however it should be noted that at least in August almost all (none touristic) business in Italy is idling or even shut down. Italians are at their beaches or have booked flights outside Italy.

So all depends on how the outside Italy tourism runs this year. Maybe some locals can tell. Touristic travel to destinations in Summer may have been booked already long ahead. Only London and Paris I see there as kind of touristic or connecting traffic. Brussels isn't exactly a classic touristic summer location for Italians on holiday and for Barcelona, north Italians may take the car instead the plane.

A lot of rational in this move and we just have to wait if all gets to previous schedule normal after summer. My bet is that not all goes back to previous schedule and the overoptimistic portion may remain. 4, 5 or 6 services to London and 2,3 or 4 services to Paris may be so dramatic and should be only restarted if yields support.

Regards

Flyglobal

Loads are really low.
I won't give you numbers, but let's just say they could very well fly this route with the smallest CRJs and still have many open seats...

Good question indeed!
Never understood the idea of first buying SN and then starting to compete with your own subsidiary which offers no less 5 daily flights to MXP!
At least sign a codeshare then, but whereas all other LH flights to/from BRU are indeed codeshared, the flights to MXP aren't... very strange policy, don't you agree?

Somehow I have a feeling we won't see LH Italia back in BRU this autumn...

That's a bit surprising indeed. I flew on LH Italia last week from LHR to MXP and back and felt that they were fabulous with great service and smiles all around. My outbound flight was full but there were only 32 on the return flight. Indeed the possibility is that too much capacity was loaded onto the market, notwithstanding the AZ pullback.

As I recall, 3 of the 6 daily LHR services are flown by BD - my return flight was on BD metal.

Hop to it, fly for life!

Probably because SN codeshares with AZ on all their services between BRU and Italy.
