I have 2 questions about Cathay's YVR-JFK flight.

If CX launches HKG-JFK non-stop flight, will these 2 situations occurs?

1) CX dumping JFK-YVR.
2) IF JFK-YVR is dumped, 2nd CX daily flight to YVR (which extends to JFK) will also dumped.

YVR-JFK is a route of neccesity rather than one of economic advantage. It will be axed in a heartbeat.

However, that said, I can see a market for 2 daily flights to Western Canada. Possible one 744 and one with a smaller aircraft.

I guess it may depend on the loads for YVR-HKG flights on CX. I beleive during the summer and winter schedules they will operate two flights to HKG out of YVR, which is something several Asian carriers are doing with their West Coast cities in the US. A day time flight followed by a red eye flight. However, the off season they may only operate one flight to on the YVR-HKG route.

I've heard CX plans on keeping this route because of high load factors on the YVR-JFK run. The nonstop will be a sceond daily into JFK I believe...

Currently, CX operates one 744 flight and one A340 flight.

The A340 serves YYZ not YVR. This aircraft flies YYZ-ANC-HKG year round...ANC being a technical stop only. On the return they fly non-stop HKG-YYZ during the winter time due to high tail winds. In the summer it is flown with a technical stop in ANC.

Actually, Alee is right about 744 and 343.

744 is on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday and 343 is on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

Rumours are that the YVR-JFK sector would continue. As I believe, there are few choices for this sector for travellers, and therefore CX does quite well out of it!! That means it might well stay.

FYI... Air Canada operates a daily JFK - YVR and YVR - JFK:

AC 321 departs JFK at 7:30 arrives YVR at 10:30.
AC 320 departs YVR at 14:55 arrives JFK at 23:15.

(all times are local to that airport)

An A319 is used on these flights.

I'd rather fly CX, at least they have PTVs in coach and a 747 beats a 319 any day!

So AC flies once daily, CX daily and I believe that AA also fly the route. Is that it?!?!
