Today's Adelaide Advertiser quotes JQ CEO Bruce Buchanan, speaking yesterday in Melbourne on the prospect of JQ international ops from Adelaide, floating the idea of operating out of YPED as opposed to ADL as a result of high costs associated with operating out of ADL:
Not sure how serious they are about this option, every chance this is an opening salvo in any negotiations with AAL on the topic.
Don't think the comparisons betwen YPED and DRW, TSV and NTL are quite as relevant as the comparison to AVV as a potential second major airport for a capital city with restrictions imposed on ops by DOD (as has been the case with the proposed international terminal there). YPED seems a much longer shot than AVV for these sorts of ops considering the fact that there were a number of customers lined up to use any international terminal there, rather than just JQ- they lobbied hard.
Will be interesting to see whether the change of Defence Minister brings about a different approach to the issue of current/former defence assets and their use.

Would the frequency of these prospective flights justify the cost of moving to Edinburgh, though? It still seems to me that this as much as anything else is about having more clout in dealing with AAL.
