Starting from the 15th of July, LH Cargo will operate 2 weekly flights, MD-11F, to JFK and ORD ex AMS. The flight originates in MXP, full routing is MXP-AMS-JFK-ORD-JFK-AMS-MXP.

These flights bring the total of LH Cargo ops in AMS at 4. Twice a week there is a FRA-AMS-FRA flight.

This will make AMS the largest operator of LH Cargo flights outside Germany in Europe, I aM not counting anything west of Moscow for this.

It will be good to see the MD-11F's here.

Zanair flight, please hold on finals as we have to clear rhino's off the runway. Next flight KUL-FRA-AMS Flown in A319,A

Sounds to me just like taking over the route from Alitalia Cargo.

Not anymore, they use their own equipment since a couple of months. It's good so see some cargo expansion again at AMS, all other airlines are decreasing their number of frequencies.

The route MXP-JFK-ORD has already been flying since Feb. this year, they decided to enter a stop in AMS to either pick up more cargo or to increase the payload/range of the flight.

I am not surprised LH cargo is after AMS-ORD and AMS-JFK cargo market.

Data collected regarding cargo traffic for these market in December 2008 show that ORD and JFK (followed by IAH and LAX) are KLM strongest cargo markets in the US:

Better to start new routes with potentail then parking them in the desert, but LH Cargo is also facing trouble in the current market situation.
I wonder if they will be able to compete with KL and still operate these flights profitable.
Only time will tell I guess.

From the spotters point of view, it sure is an interesting addition to AMS.
Are there already times available?

ps. how many LCAG M1F's are parked currently?

Not quite. LH Cargo flies 5x BRU-EMA-JFK-BRU and 6x EMA-ILN-EMA, which would make AMS the largest operator of LH Cargo flights outside of Germany, West of Moscow and East of Rotterdam...

These flights are operated by World Airways, this contract ends next week.
It might be that EMA-JFK will also be operated by LH Cargo, not sure of this.

Indeed, so ? The revenue still ends up in Lufthansa's pocket, not World's. Whether the flight is a dry/wet lease or a self-operation doesn't matter much when it comes to performance.

West of Moscow and East of Rotterdam...

Big grin could be east of Antwerp as well....

Interesting to note how many new routes and market opportunities are. JADE just announced that they establish a mini hub at VIE.
