Quoting Thestooges (Reply 4): I personally think they should have done the old meatball scheme (the last livery), that would have looked really cool !!!
IIRC, they held an employee poll for the design of this jet, and this was the winning design. The "meatball" liveries may still be a touchy subject for more senior employees since those liveries are associated with some pretty rough times for the airline. This is probably why this design won out.

It won't be at EWR till Friday morning.
It's probably at Boeing.
Larry and some selected members from the hubs will be picking it up and bringing it to IAH on Thursday. Then it's supposed to come to EWR and CLE this Friday. I guess afterwards it goes into revenue service.

looks nice but I was told CO was also looking at the "gold" and "meatball" paint schemes which would have made a bigger contrast with the other planes. Again, this looks nice but in the tarmac it would get lost since it has a lot of white.

Now if I'm REALLY REALLY lucky, this will be one of my CO flights LAX-HNL-LAX in late OCT.
I have my seats, now I hope this is my bird because the print-out shows a 739 on the route for both legs.

I dont think its finished being painted. Somethings missing but im not sure what it is. The golden jet paint job I was hoping for was the 60s style. Where the gold was painted partially up the tail below "Continental" and "Golden Jet" as well. As an employee of the Meatball Golden jet era. I have to say it would have been nice to see a retro scheme with the black meatball. Once it was repainted red on the tail the company went to crap.

Yes, the Golden jet scheme would of been much more unique, cool and colorful. Lots of nostalgia for those, because I got some good 707 rides growing up. Still have a postcard with one of those too!
The meatball jets were great too, but I feel they are almost "too recent" for a retrojet livery today.
The pictured 739 I think is maybe "too safe", and nothing special except for some classic fonts. Seems more reminiscent of the prop era ,not the jet era.
The best part of the Golden jets was the sinister looking blacked out "mask" around the flight deck windows.
(That russian tycoon's 767 bizjet has a similar but thinner masked area, which is very cool.)
This is how the employees wanted to be represented, so I respect that.
