I was just thinking... Do you think that in the years to come that the Star Alliance airlines within the European Union will merge and become the largest airline on the face of earth? Would that "Megaline" then be called Lufthansa, since it's the largest airline? Or will they stay independant and just be (Star-)partners? What do you think?

i assume they will remain separate entities, however, i´m sure that LH is going to seek major influence in most of its european partners.
in the past, the LH bosses have repeatedly stated that they don´t intend to buy major stakes in many different airlines because they don´t think that´s a healthy base to found partnership on. but i think they´ve changed their minds.
they acquired a stake in bmi, they´re interested in acquiring a stake in the austrian airlines aviation group, they´re interested in thai, they wanted a stake in LOT (finally SR got it), they wanted a stake in SAA (and again, SR got it).
in addition, they do have numerous stakes in minor european carriers, like Air Dolomiti and Luxair, and according to some rumours, are interested in acquiring a stake of spanair.
i´d say their attitude has definitively changed...
i mean if you want to preserve you partnerships buying a major stake in your allies sometimes might be the only way to do so...
