Just wondering what is going on with Continental Express flight 4911 from IAH-LAX today. First of all I thought most express flights operated by ExpressJet were numbered 2000's or 3000's (Not to forget about Flight 1220 DCA-EWR, among other exceptions) But what's the 4000 version of the flight number mean? I can't recall IAH-LAX being operated by the XRJ.

No because there are
Quoting Xaapb (Reply 1): Best guess a ferry flight for reposition or maintenance?
No, I don't think so because there are actual passengers booked on this flight (47/50). Ironically, at the exact same time there is a 767-200 operated IAH-LAX on mainline Continental.

Well it's showing up on Continental.com as a regular flight. It is also showing that the same aircraft is coming back. It is surprising to see though. It is almost random. I'm not seeing anymore XJ flights to LAX tomorrow.

Yeah, and what's up with the flight number? XJ flights are usually not numbered in the 4000's.

I figured it out! Ok. so the flight that is leaving at the same time was originally a 757-300. That got downgraded to a 767-200 which roughly (now don't get all particular with me out there nerds) seats 50 less pax. Thus, ExpressJet was called in for a relief flight....

Quoting UN_B732 (Reply 6): I find it funny that according to continental.com someone listed themselves standby on the ERJ rather than on the 762. Why? LOL
Pretty full loads today, and your would be amazed how many senior flight attendants wouldn't be able to find the express gates anyway. lol...

It appears that CO1605, the 1150 IAH departure to LAX, was downgraded to a 762 from the normal 753. Right now, there are 42/50 customers booked on CO4911, the RJ extra section to carry the potentially stranded passengers. Interesting move, CO!

Problem solved, I think.

Nothing mentioned in the COAir website new bulletins nor in the Expressjet site. However we have had 4000 series flight nos. into CRP on occasion when there has been a flight added at the last minute.

Funny how a widebody ac is a downgrade from a narrowbody one. What has this world come to?
I'd certainly like to hear what those pax expecting a loooooooong narrow plane thought of their "downgrade" 767 aircraft. Though, the ERJ would certainly be quite the downgrade on this sector. The luck of the draw for the pax, I suppose.

there is no XJT flight from IAH-LAX today. If you're referencing the flight number, thats there, but its a segment for MHT-EWR
okay, I'm waiting for the rich to spread the wealth around to me. Please mail your checks to my house.

SO how long is that flight. THe ERJs usually do similar times (usually a little longer) as the bigger jets,
I know it is a long flight. But honestly I am usually quite comfortable on the ERJs, sitting on the side with one seat, close to the front, usually it is a quite smooth uneventful flight. Sometimes being on a bigger bird, i.e. 737 or 757 just means more people on the plane and the feel of being in a wider space. O an the slight bigger seat (not sure, just feels that way). But that is about it. i don't really watch IFE, or anything of the sort. Sleep and read, that is a flight for me, so as long as I am not in a turboprop, I am fine.
