Had the joy of watching an EK 77L approach Calgary this morning as I was out and about ... Flightaware states it is a diversion of the flight to SFO. A great sight above what is otherwise bland Calgary.

It's at YYC until 1345 according to the flight status.

ARRIVED DIVERSION AIRPORT
Flight diverted to YYC (Calgary) due to medical emergency onboard.

I do hope that the medical emergency has been successfully attended to, and that the person is OK.

It's too bad I am working today, and can only glimpse at the website a few times during the day. Had it been the A380, and I had caught this in time, hell yah I woulda hightailed it to the airport...

As I have some family on board that very flight, I was somewhat concerned; so after I called Emirates both in New York and in Dubai and not getting any information, I called the YYC airport and was told by the very helpful duty manager that the stricken passenger is a 68 year old female. Hope she will be ok.

Thanks to the very kind duty manager.

Inshalla the person'll be ok....

I wonder if any EK execs are brainstorming right now. Here's a concept:
They stock any US West Coast-bound flight with a good number of high-risk pax, and divert to YYC ansd YVR on alternate days. At long last, EK will have additional Canadian rights  Smile

In regards to this medical diversion, and medical diversions in general, does anyone have an idea as to why the time on the ground would have been so long? In this case according to the EK website, the flight arrived at 1148 and departed at 1335, or a length of some 1 hour and 47 minutes? Is that length of time usual? Would they need to refuel before continuing to SFO?

Sounds quite quick to me, you dont just throw them out the door and go.

Paramedics will come on board, probably treat in situ for a while, bags need to be offloaded, flight plans created and filed, aircraft refueled etc etc. Anything under 2 hrs at an offline station is good going.

I was really suprised see EK here in YYC. I only get out spotting every once in a while and most of the time I always see something out of the ordinary and today it was EK. Would love to see an EK 77L all the time at YYC.

Definitely out of the ordinary ... I also saw that Enerjet 737 coming in for a landing today, one that I had not seen (although had seen it parked many months ago). It's always great to see LH and KL as well, as they are the only splash of out of the ordinary we get 'round here.

Also interesting to see fellow YYCers on this forum, not as exciting as the EK 77L however  Smile
