Just recently we had a Piper vs Ford thread. And now this... Dublin ATC clears a B757 to land (middle of night) when a bunch of lawnmowers have been cutting the grass in the field.
Quote: The driver of the mower was unaware that an aircraft was landing and he did not see the aircraft before it passed his vehicle. It is probable that the starboard wing of the Boeing 757 passed over the ride-on mower during the landing roll.

Quoting HAWK21M (Reply 2): No VHF communication/Anticol lights on a vehicle on Runway area is a NoGo.
Even when they do it isn't always great. Admittedly I was in a 2 seat trainer, so it isn't quite as drastic, but I once had to go around for a lawn mower well inside the runway strip, sitting pretty much right at the end of the sealed strip. In the middle of the day no less, and the guy had a radio. I made about half a dozen calls over the frequency (this was at what most of the world would know as an MBZ, but what Australia calls a CTAF(R) ). After I landed I went and suggested to the guy that he was being less than clever - he told me "Oh, I thought if I just stayed where I was, I wouldn't be in your way".
Still doesn't hold a candle to the best one I've ever had - helicopter pilot lets sends his student solo, then decides to wander across the runway. While I was on short final.
Seriously, if I had a dollar for each time I'd seen someone do something crazy on a runway, I'd be able to afford to fly for leisure as well as for work!
