It was nice to see a DL MD-88 sitting at gate A-3 this morning. Today is the first day of mainline service between MDT and ATL. Hopefully it does well and becomes permanent instead of the current 'seasonal' service.

Yeah, they should include a local press release with something like, our new MD-88 service to Atlanta is now available until we can kick AirTran out of the market and then you'll be flying our state of the art Regional Jets that we have provided to Central PA residents for years.

Isn't that the truth. I hate riding the CRJ to ATL. I haven't heard any news on how FL is doing between MDT and ATL.

Well if anything you will likely have it most of the year to DTW.

If you receive FL service to ATL, there is a high probablity you will receive atleast a 70 seater or larger

I am curious about the FL run to ATL.

I just checked the online seatmap for Independence Day, and there's only a 62% LF. For tomorrow, the LF appears to be 80%.

For early September, the flights appear to be half-full. That is according to the airline's website, so this probably isn't very accurate...

FL's online seatmaps arent a reliable measure of their loads. Not everyone buying a ticket has to select (purchase).

AVP is losing all Atlanta service this August, so I would not count on that.

I did a check also and came up about the same. I also checked the MD-88 and there was not an empty seat on it. Reliable? Probably not the best, but it gives an idea anyway.I would guess because of miles that more business travelers will stay with DL, and leisure with FL. The two can co-exist, but as I have said time and time again, they need to do more marketing! THere are many central PA people totally unaware of what is offered here. They just assume it has to be cheaper to go to BWI or PHL. UA and AA/AE co-existed to ORD for the longest time, both did quite well too.
On a side note, CO service to CLE was over booked both flights I was on last weekend, good to see they are doing well, hopefully the yields are there.

That's too bad. AVP has lost quite a bit of service lately. It's seems DL is shuffleing flights around to different hubs, I guess DTW will be the main runs for the day. MDT is loosing MSP after August I beleive.

Does anyone know for sure it DL mainline will stay at MDT? It was originally only until the end of August, now it's bookable into next year.

How long is FL going to fly to ATL? Thats how long DL will fly mainline there.

I believe September 8th is when it ends. Originally DL mainline was only scheduled from July to the end of August. Now it is bookable into next year. It's hard to say either way, but I'm thinking it might stay year round just to keep FL from launching year round service, but who knows. While I do prefer FL over DL, DL has still been over all good to the Harrisburg area, compared to a lot of other smaller cities that have lost ATL/CVG service altogether or drastically cut services and so on. We could have it worse.

Thats the last date its bookable. The fares dont look too bad on the MDT-ATL segment though, 200-300 each way every date I checked. I'm not going to lie and say it was a very thorough search though..

Well with FL gone DL could probably keep the mainline, raise the price and turn a profit.

Unfortunately............, DL's not into that sort of thing. I just dont see them keeping it around if they dont have FL there to fight with. If DL's not flying there at FL's fares they're not happy.
