Today is a proud day in the history of New Orleans aviation. The first ever scheduled international flight since 2005 will arrive at gate C-1 this evening. Sure, it's just an ERJ-145, but it signifies a renewed effort on the part of New Orleans to sort of re-internationalize the city. I'll be taking a round-trip to MEX on the new flights early next month to show my support for the service.

Hopefully when the crisis is over and demand picks up, plus there is good advertising for Mexicans to travel to such a beautiful city as New Orleans, AM flight will be daily using a 73G.
What about CUN? Are we going to see schedule service from AM in the near future?

Thanks for replying. I didn't figure anyone would.

I'm glad to hear advertising is good on the MEX side. 73G would be nice one day. It wouldn't surprise me to at least see an E90 upgrade before too long.

I've been told that plans are in the works for MSY-CUN service. Hopefully sooner than later.

Quoting Dalb777 (Reply 3): Is there a reason for this flight arriving so late? I guess it's good for an early morning MSY departure...
Scheduled times are 8:30pm departure from MEX and 10:50pm arrival in MSY.
Both flights allow for decent connections in MEX to/from the Mexican beach markets and some interior cities. They are also heavily promoting the connecting service to SAP.
For those interested here's a new article hot off the presses. AM's VP of North American ops is featured as well as a look at the new ticket counter.

I think Aeromexico launched this flight with the Central American community in mind.. Large Honduran population in New orleans, the flight stops in MEX but continues on to Honduras...
I had an overnight in New Orleans 2 days ago, the main newspaper said something like "the political crisis in Honduras not driving AM away from the route"

Congratulations on the new service. That is great news.
I wonder, will the ERJ-145 be weight-restricted out of MEX during the summer?

Well, the route on the first outbound flight is pretty much the same....

Finally some good utilization from AM with the ERJ's! By extending the flying time and pushing the Embraer to the maximum range the CASM could be reduced.
Hopefully AM make MSY works! In the 80s, MX had traffic for a 727, in the 90s it was TWA with a mix of MD80s and B757s...
