While working at the Grand Forks airport I saw a Skywest CRJ in United Express colors land and taxi to the terminal. Jumped on to flightaware and saw that it was heading to Winnipeg and diverted to GFK about half way between GFK and Winnipeg. Just wondering if anyone has any information on this.

Given that GFK is not a standard alternate, it's most likely an unplanned WX diversion, or something happened at GFK that required them to divert. Especially without holding.

Interesting they didn't divert to FAR where UA has some presence. It may have been weather judging by the possibility of thunderstorms in the winnipeg airport area. Looks like now the flight is headed up to Winnipeg, after staying about 45 minutes on the ground. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/SKW6158

What is that in the background? Is that a DL DC-9?

I've wondered what happens in these odd situations such as this where a plane diverts somewhere, and there's no CS (let alone ramp) presence for that particular airline.

What happens to the passengers?
