The title of the topic is really long, but I understand Supplemental Monitors add extra weight to the aircraft. The low-cost, pay for what you use business model of US made forced them to take all Tvs out of the narrow-body aircraft. Keeping this in mind and the extra cost of carrying the supplemental monitors, why did US install them?
Will the supplemental monitors allow them to do Airshow and a Safety Video?

I wonder how the regs apply on the safety demo if a seat has a broken monitor. That pax. doesn't get a safety demo. Maybe it's to do with that? Just a wild guess, really...

Nah, because they could still see it on the screen next to it, and the company 333 doesnt event do a safety video

I was sitting in the exit row of a DL 75E a couple of weeks ago and I went to get out the TV to watch the safety video and the FA said I should stow it and I didn't have to watch the video.
Why do Aerospace Engineering students have to turn things in on time?

I don't think they will be doing the safety video on the 332. They don't have one for the 333. I don't even remember seeing supplemental TVs on the 333, although I never thought to look for them.
They did the live safety demonstration on the 333 before they started doing the live demonstration on the narrow body fleet.

Was there no bulkhead or over-aisle screen visible to you? Most airlines I am aware of position a flight attendant to do a live demo to the audio of the video whereever screens are not visible. I cannot think of an airline where this is not the case.
The flight attendant was right to have you keep the armrest PTV stowed.
Quoting USAirALB (Reply 2): Nah, because they could still see it on the screen next to it,
PTVs are designed to not to be viewed by passengers either side for comfort reasons. You would have to lean across to be able to view what is on the screen. It would be very awkward.

I know US uses the A333's on domestic routes (IIRC, SJU), but will they use the A332' s also on domestic routes? Domestic service tends to be even crappier than international service so maybe they won't even turn on the PTV's and just use the overhead TV's instead.

Airways is using the A332 on the PHL-SJU route now. And the monitors on the bulkheads are used for the airmap and boarding video only on flts to TLV which I am working today for my first time .

Nope it was all PTVs.
Quoting Ditzyboy (Reply 5): Most airlines I am aware of position a flight attendant to do a live demo to the audio of the video whereever screens are not visible.
All they did was point out the exits if I remember correctly.
Quoting Ditzyboy (Reply 5): The flight attendant was right to have you keep the armrest PTV stowed.
Yeah, but I figured I had to watch the video, especially since I was in an exit row. When I flew in CW on a BA 777, the FAs came through and opened up all of the TVs for the safety video and instructed us to stow them when it was over.
Quoting Ditzyboy (Reply 5): PTVs are designed to not to be viewed by passengers either side for comfort reasons.
I think that they have those filters on them so that they can only be viewed straight on.

From what I heard, there is an A332 flying between PHL and CLT. Is this true? I've flown every US Airways mainline jet except for the 330.

Is the boarding video the one where it plays music and after the music, they go to a picture of a plane and it says “Welcome Aboard”, then there is an automated boarding announcement?

No, I've flown Row 1 in F on VX 3 times, and never seen a flight attendant give the safety, though my IFE was tucked into the seat rest too.

At least they'll have an Airshow on one of the 330 variants now. That was the only thing I found missing that I would've liked with the US AVOD system.

Yeah, I was really surprised by this, and wondered if it was legal. I could only hear the video when flying F, and of course got to watch it when flying Y on VX.
