Not quite sure if this aircraft is being stored due to the world economy or for some other reason. I hope for the sake of this particular MD11 that she will be leaving soon.

Quoting Boeing727 (Thread starter):

She did a charter flight to IAH the other day and it now in VCV to be stored until further notice. At least until end 2010...
The future is unsure. Rumours go from: she'll be back in a couple of months and others say, they will never be reactivated and replaced by A330F.

By the way, it is: D-ALCS  cry

Probably not soon. But when the economy and air cargo market begin to pick up, I bet an MD-11F would be pretty attractive to a lot of airlines out there.

Given the current owner - but I hope world economy ends its sleep and this aircraft gets back to here full of goods.

Well, the German economy is showing very positive signs of recovery (was in the news yesterday), which is very important for Europe. So let's hope that this is indeed temporary...

The economy is getting better and LH Cargo decided only to store 5 aircrafts ISO 6... So we still can hope...

No chance for 737, will be either 340s or 744s...

But let's stay on the topic that the great MD11s are in the desert. They don't deserve this... Poor old Lady.

Can not agree more, I just hope they will have some more time with LH Cargo. It will be the end of an era, the last MDD (I will never refer to her as a Boeing MD 11) and the last big trijet.

of course it's very sad to see those mighty birds going to the desert due to economy downturn, but regarding LH don't forget that they have a huge pax network so they still have a lot of capacity for LH Cargo in the belly of pax planes.
the smallest widebody (A333) can still hold up to 7-8 pallets of cargo with a full passenger load. it depends, but this is still capacity of up to 25-30 tonnes.

I'm doing my best to fill the MD-11F's of LH Cargo
Loadfactor is slightly going up the last weeks and they even installed a 7th flight to VCP recently.
SEA is coming online on August 20th. LH Cargo is looking at various ways to keep it's aircraft flying at a time when many competitors folding or reducing flights.

I do hope all the parked aircraft will be back in FRA very soon.

Zanair flight, please hold on finals as we have to clear rhino's off the runway. Next flight KUL-FRA-AMS Flown in A319,A

LH itself not so drastically. Only at LH Cargo we put nearly 1/3rd of the fleet into the desert. The LH mainline only one 343 and one 744 so far.

A lot of changes take place recently. That results in a lot of changes in our personal rosters to make it possible. We want to make money Big grin

Does not look like. The one in VCV now is stored until December 2010. reactivating it earlier is really expensive and before they reactivate this one, they'll take the one in LEJ.

Looks like I could go to the 744 in Oktober or November 2010. For the 340 about May 2010, so only a couple of months difference. There is no real shortage at the moment. All fleets fly quite a bit but not too much, so only the seats which get free from fleet change or upgrades need to be filled up. Which is not too much, but slowly my seniority is getting better Big grin

Yes, they are flying from what I know. They are using the Call sign "German Cargo". It already confuses controllers all over the world as LH Cargo uses GEC and we are called German Cargo a lot of times as well. The LBA is involved and we'll see if they can keep that callsign.
Aerologic is flying the LEJ-BAH-SIN-DEL-LEJ rotation with their 777s. And sometimes even charter for LH cargo are planned.

As much as I have heard Aero Logic is already flying to Hong Kong and Singapore on a regular basis while Air Cargo Germany has not had a scheduled flight yet.
