Zonguldak Turkey; a small city with 600,000 population opens its airport. The city is 240km. ENE of SAW, and 175 WNW of ESB. I have no idea if there will be any domestic traffic in the near future. Also worth mentioning that this is a city with the least population increase in all of Turkey. It might be hard to keep this airport busy while the people leaving the city. But today Germania flew in with 138 pax, and the locals rushed to see the plane. Maybe some future spotters among the crowd.
Some pics here, from the Turkish Aviation site; airporthaber.com :

Here is a video of the Germania's test fly-by in October I think:

Here is the cheesiest photomontage of the Germania test flight months earlier:

Quoting TK787 (Thread starter):

It's also NNW of Ankara CBD itself, along the Black Sea coast. Looks like a nice area, and always fun to see local excitement at a new arrival! best of luck to Germania and the local economy.

How did people get there before? Rail connections, or just road? Or is this a brand new area as far as resorts go, trying to get their name on the map (assuming that's what it is geared towards)?

Some rail service, mostly local and to Ankara, but most people use highways for transportation. Not really a resort area. It is mostly known for its coal mines.

Ah, my bad, I figured it was based on the location. Thanks for the news!
