MSN043 (F-WWAB) the third for Air France made its first flight on July 21. It will be transfered to Hamburg shortley. It will be delivered to Air France in Q1 2010.

Unquote.

Why does it take 9 months to install the interior of this plane? And why hasn't the first one not been delivered yet? It has been sitting at Hamburg for ages now.

The one that you are reffering to is MSN033 which was rolled out of the paint sheds two weeks ago. It will be delivered in October after training with Air France and other finishing is finished.

It takes around 6-9 months in Hamburg as there is a wait for spaces in painting and furnishing halls and it takes a long time.

Just what I was thinking!

It does seem to take an awful long time to fit out and paint.

thanks for that .

Is it just me , or is the fin on the 3rd A380 painted in the 'old' AF style ? ( no sweeping bit at the bottom )

seems strange that the first AF A380 is painted in the 'new' style and the third has the 'old' style , or is this something that will be amended when the aircraft goes into the paintshop for the full job ?

The main assembly line for the A380 is in TLS the birds are then flown structurally and functionally complete (but lacking paint and an interior) to XFW for the lengthy process of fitting out and painting.

On the no delivery till October for the first one, I think that AF are running extensive training flights before taking official delivery.

Because it has so many electronic devices in it.

Yes, but it is a cabin design that hasn't been build before. A SQ A380 goes faster, because it has been done before.

I wouldn't be too suprised if this airframe would be delivered in 2009. Remember there was an article saying that AF will receive three A380s until the end of the year: MSN 033, 040 and eventually 043, if this article is true (and the journalist hasn't mixed up fiscal year with calendar year): http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-...11-704178.html

It would also make sense due to the fact that both QF and EK have reduced their 2009-deliveries and in order to come close to the number of 14 they need "compensation" (something like calling at AF and LH and asking "eeeeerhhh, would you please take one of your A380s earlier, please? Yes, the one about which we informed you that we cannot deliver it in 2009...."):

SQ: 4 (019, 021, 034 und 045)
EK: 3 (017, 007 und 023)
QF: 3 (026, 027 und 029)
AF: 3 (033, 040 und 043???)
Total: 13 (don't ask me for the 14th one, I have no idea except MSN 002)

Also the list of planespottingworld shows that MSN 043 will be delivered in 2009: http://plane.spottingworld.com/A380_production_list

MSN 043 could become something like MSN 022 last year: first flight August 01st, transfer to XFW on August 04th and delivery on December 27th as the third QF A380.

Best regards

The tail fin is indeed painted in the "old" AF colors.
It was manufactured and painted already a while ago and before AF revealed officially its new colors and logo.

Only 2 A380 for AF in 2009.
The third one will not be delivered before January/Feb 2010.

No chance for 2009. To many aircraft ahead of it. There were less in Hamburg last year.

Because German staff have real long vacations, short working days, and are often at home looking after their children.  duck

No, seriously I think there is nothing unusual about the delivery schedule for the Air France birds. Otherwise we would be the first to know here at a.net.

Thanks very much for that information, someone has to change the list on planespottingworld accordingly. With this information I am afraid we maybe will even see only 12 deliveries in 2009, the same number as in 2008:

SQ: 4 (019, 021, 034 and 045)
EK: 3 (017, 007 and 023)
QF: 3 (026, 027 and 029)
AF: 2 (033, 040)
Total: 12

True, but once we are at work, we are very efficient - unless we are surfing in the a-net forum.  Wink

Yes that is my guess as well. Then have early deliveries for MSN,025,043,047 and 009 (if all go's well for 009)

How long does it take to outfit a a330 or 747 for that matter? 6-9 months seems like a really long time.

I wonder how long it would take to reconfigure the cabin once it is operating with an airline.

The outfitting done in Hamburg is more than just installing the seats. That can be done in a few days. I remember seeing a documentary about LH Technik were they deinstalled the whole business class and installed a new one in a A340-600 within one night.
