This is not good news for Nairobi, never nice to have a runway blocked.

I do of course hope that all people involved are safe and well.

I have used this airline a couple of times for cargo shipments ex NBO to other destinations in East Africa. I actually have a shipment planed to Mwanza tomorrow.

Zanair flight, please hold on finals as we have to clear rhino's off the runway. Next flight: AMS-FRA-SIN-FRA-AMS

I saw this aircraft parked next to the far end of the terminal when I was in NBO las week. Thought to myself, that it had seen better days.

Is it blocking the runway....if so, what are KL/BA/KQ etc doing....divert to Kilamanjaro?

When in doubt, hold on to your altitude. No-one has ever collided with the sky.

The information by nations.co.ke is entirely wrong.

Better:

http://www.eturbonews.com/10576/bad-...ief-runway-closure-nairobi-airport

Airplane involved was a Cessna Caravan arriving from Dar Es Salaam bursting a tyre on landing, runway was closed for an hour, no further damages ... End of story.

Astral Aviation operates Cessna Caravans, F27s, AN12s and the DC93, see

http://www.astral-aviation.com/profile-company.php

although their fleet page only shows the DC93.

Servus, Simon

Good news to hear, happy to hear that everyone is ok and that delays were kept to a minimum.

Also good, for me, to hear that the DC-9F is still in flying.

Saw it also when I was there with LH Cargo beginning of July...

actually I think the plane looked quite fine...

Man, I am glad they are off on the DC-9. I know a guy over there flying that thing and I was really worried for a second.

Start sequence, 3,2,1, make it so...

I do as well. I'm shooting him an email as we speak.
