America West is reated the worst of the majors: 10th of the top ten. They lose more checked baggage, have more delays, and have more customer complaints than the others. It was on MSNBC last night, but I knew of it before that...
I would reccommend Frontier. I fly American a whole lot. Living in Dallas, American is the logical choice. But Frontier may have a better fare, and they are known to be good. Bad service- I should say not much food, but actually the flight crews are supposed to be pretty good.

I agree with AA737-823. DO NOT fly America West (here in the states, sometimes known as "America Worst"--hence my suggestion). I've flown America Worst over 10 times, and every time they have been bad. Last time, they lost my luggage both ways. And the aircraft are cramped.

Am. West is pretty bad(or so I have heard) and with Frontier, you will stop in DEN and change planes, and AA will get you there non-stop. If you are going non-stop, I would choose AA. If you are going for best fare, I would go Frontier.
Give me a break, I created this username when I was a kid...

If you want to check out how I've faired on America West check out the trip reports section. I've had good trips on them. Contrary to what some of the other responses have been they are about middle of the pack operationally nowadays. The report aa737 speaks of is for 2000 I believe. We are already 4 months into 2001 and the airline is much improved. Have fun whoever you fly

Your only choices for n/s service are on HP, AA, and DL. To be honest just pick the flights that are the cheapest and are when you need them to be. On any carrier you will be lucky to get more than a bag of peanuts, and no IFE, certainly on AA, since most in not all DFW-PHX flights are on Super 80s. Don't hesitiate to fly America West. Their operational numbers to date for 2001 are MUCH improved. But their employees are always super friendly in my experience. But be forewarned their 737s are tight on seat room. If you can get a flight from Dallas to Phoenix on an Airbus go for it.

I wouldn't fly America West. They often overbook their flights and I have heard time and again on this forum about how filthy their aircraft are and how nasty the employees are. I'd go with American. You'll probably be on a boring MD80, with more room in coach, and you will be on a clean plane. I am sure that WN has a direct
service from DAL via some other city to PHX. Try them.
But don't go with HP.

I normally respect your posts as they are usually filled with knowledgeable insight about the airline industry. But your post here has proven otherwise. Did you know that in March, America West had the 3rd lowest cancellation rate, behind Continental and Southwest? They had a completion factor of 97.2 percent, above the industry average of 96.6. And since January, they have managed an on-time arrival rate of over 70 percent. And what makes you say they have the rudest employees? My experience with America West agents has been nothing out of the ordinary...I'd rather deal with the average America West gate agent in Phoenix than some Continental agent in Newark that's a rude and obnoxious jerk (and there are plenty of them). The only aborted take-off I've ever experienced was on Continental, consequently I misconnected in IAH, so Continental is not perfect either. Gordon has brought them along way and I'd fly them anyday. But I think people in this forum have got your number on how you seem to bash America West rather often. Know the facts before you blow on about something you know little about.

Thankyou very much for the input, now I dont want any fighting, ContinentalEWR 'is' entitled to HIS opinion, and thanx Jmc1975, I appreciate your facts...
So lets not fight, I'm grateful to all who helped me out, I think that I'll try and take a direct flight but depending on circumstances, it may only come to cheapest! Also, Considering that my Company stipulates AA for business travel & I'll be flying AA from LHR-DFW, I may choose another airline from DFW-PHX, but I'll see whats around. I'd like to try Frontier and AW and as I have seen all 3 for $281 return, I may take my pick between the best of the 3.

It always is good to try out new and different airlines. I have been very impressed with Frontier, but they have to make that stop in DEN. Honestly, America West best service is on their long-hauls aboard their Airbuses and 757s. I honestly don't think you'll see much difference in service on a DFW-PHX leg. If prices are equal, I guess alot of it depends on what type of aircraft you prefer to fly on. If I were to choose, I'd aim to fly on the AA 757, but they only have 1-2 out of 10 nonstops a day in that market are with that aircraft. America West has 5 nonstops a day and Delta has 2 per day. Enjoy your flight.

I use to be a America West hater, but that was before I even took a flight, I hated them because of their image. But after taking my first flight, which actually wasnt that great, I did not see too much wrong with them. I then took HP for a second time this past week from PHX-SAN and ONT-PHX. They customer service people were very friendly and I arrived in ONT 5 minutes before the door shut and still got on the plane, evan though it was over booked! And what is wrong with flights over booked? I like when airlines do that so I can give my seat up and get a nice voucher and go out maybe 2-3 hours later, o well, its just 3 hours. HP is an airline on the upswing. Their new partnership with the present US Airways comuter carrier (I cant spell it, though it starts with a C) is going to make HP express that much better. They will also be the launch of the new CRJ900? As for mainline, they will be ordering A19's and 320's again I am pretty sure. For me, I will have to try HP on the PHX-BDL route since that is the only non stop flight bewtween the 2 cities, than I can get a better idea of how HP is since I fly that route many times a year on NW and CO. Goodluck to you on your trip, the AA 757 wouuld be nice but the HP 320's are also nice.
Round trip fare is at 258.00 on most major airlines.
