For those in PHL with any interest, AF flight 366/31JUL will operate with B744 equipment iso A332. The aircraft will overnight at PHL and fly back to CDG as AF365A/01AUG, etd 16:00lt. The substitution will accommodate all the passengers stuck at CDG from today's cancelled AF366. The aircraft is planned to be F-GEXB.

Hi everyone

I was on AF366 yesterday. Let me tell you it was a loooooooooooooong day. First we had to board by bus. AF366 must be the "unloved stepchild" because everytime I've taken this flight we are ALWAYS bussed to the aircraft. At least we left from the re-opened 2E. Very nice terminal. Anyway the boarding process was a complete mess. I'm not exaggerating....the bus ride to the plane took 22 minutes. The aircraft was at 2C. If there was a long way and a short way the drive took the looooong way to 2C. Sorry but didn"t get the regs. They wouldn't let me out of the line in order to look.

So we were actually in the air about an hour when the captian made announcement there was a problem with a warning light. There was no panic or angry people....I think everyone was just glad we were able to make it back to CDG safe and sound. When we landed the pilot said it may only take an hour or so to "fix" whatever the problem was but by the time we made it to the terminal they announced the flight was definitely cancelled.

I do have to give AF credit. They had an entire service desk staffed waiting for us to rebook us on the next flight, give us vouchers for a hotel (the IBIS at Roissypole), food vouchers and handed out beverages and sandwiches. Believe it our not most pax took it all in stride. Two biz pax made a stink when staff helped a mother travelling with three small kids before them but otherwise everyone was eventually looked after.

I was planning to head straigt to DC after arriving in PHL so I asked if they could re/book me on a flight directly to IAD. It worked I got one of the last two seats on AF26. Too bad I missed a chance to get on a 747, but I'm flying back on AF95 next week from MIA so no big deal.

Well that's about it. Boarding starts soon and I need to use the WC.......Enjoy the B747 and hope some of you can get some good shots.

A330 man.

Is this the first AF744 in PHL? It will be nice to see a 747 in PHL again, it has been quite some time since a 747 was regularly scheduled into PHL.

Why is it RON though? So it flies in today, the 31st, no PHL-CDG flight today. Then tomorrow the 1st, no CDG-PHL flight and the 744 will fly PHL-CDG?

How long has it been since BA used 747's in PHL? I remember flying on them a few times out of PHL but it's been at least 7 or 8 years since I stopped going to PHL if I could avoid it.

Mandatory crew rest for the B744 crew requires overnight (no possibility to deadhead crew yesterday). Tomorrow will see normal operation of scheduled flight in/out, plus departure of B744 (2 departures Saturday: 1600 and 1840).

I don't know when BA last sent 747s to PHL regularly - but I would assume prior to the 3x-4x/daily frequencies after the US hub buildup.

As recently as 2 years ago, LH was still alternating A343s and 744s to PHL during the summer months.

In the 2000-2004 (i think, it may be more like 98-2001) timeline BA sent a mix of 772 and 744s, with a few summers seeing 2x daily 744s. Before the US buildup and the arrival of the 772's, PHL saw 2x daily 742's (early '90s)

I thought LH was a daily 744 about 3 or 4 summers ago but then the summer after it was only 1 or 2x weekly 744 and after that only as a sub

If you want to get technical UPS was still sending 747's from CGN or ONT up until about 2 years ago I believe.

So there is a slim possibility of two AF birds on the ground at the same time

Pretty sure BA had a 777 and 747 in the summer last two years ago. It's been 772 and 763 for a while now, though occasionally 2x772.

AF 366 usually lands before 4pm, when AF 365A is scheduled out tomorrow, so it's reasonably likely that there will be both the 744 and 332 on the ground tomorrow. They may well, however, only use one gate across both flights.

The aircraft is planned to be F-GEXB.

Rather disappointing from AF to put GEXB instead of GITH, GITI or GITJ for this special service as seats would be more comfortable and PTV in all Y seats would help delayed passenger to have a better trip to PHL after the cancellation of their flight... Hello AirFrance what are you doing ?

Wouldn't they use whatever 744 is available?

I don´t think your engagement / wedding is important enough to miss this unique AF experience!

Mmmmm... yeah!  Smile

Besides... one of my previous dames kinda resembled a 747 -- not in a good way either!  Wink

That's ok tho, I saw Air Force One at PHL before. I saw it land and take off, and I got a fairly decent pic of it as well.

Well the arrival was a poor photo opportunity as F-GEXB was the last aircraft to land before one of the strongest thunderstorms to pass through in a long time. Visibility on the ground was less than 100 feet as it taxied to the gate.

Saturday's AF366 has been rescheduled for 30 minutes later in order to facilitate the turnaround and ensure AF365A is well off the gate before it arrives.

During certain times of the year when AFR use to route the PHL flight through BOS, there were 742 type eqpt. on this route.

This answers my question. I saw a 744 takeoff around 1635 local today on 27L. I wondered who ii was since I couldn't see the scheme due to sun glare.
