Just a quick question. Today there were 8 mainline diversions into BHM due to the bad weather into ATL. How many DL gates are there at BHM? TYS got 5 mainlines and HSV got 6 I think thats just a few of the 30+ planes that diverted all day today for mainline in the ATL area.

Only 3 or 4, can't remember. Most of the time they park the diversions remotely, fuel them, and get out as soon as possible.

yep, thats what they do in TYS. Especially sincce they usually get an international flight or two when there are diverts. This time it was LHR-TYS-ATL

Is it bad that I get excited to see even a CRJ overfly? Man, what this place does to you

I beleive that's Four... C8 is also used. Flying into it today. C2 has no jetway and is exclusively used for CRJs with C4 also primarily CRJ. In a pinch, there is access to a couple of other unoccupied C gates. For an added fee I am sure. Hoevever, most diversions I have seen at the airport park away from the terminal and leave ASAP.

According to the BHM website, gates C2, C4, C6, and C8 belong to DL. There are also two NW gates on B Concourse, B3 and B5.

The planes were lined up on the taxiway west of runway 18/36. Delta did not park them at its gates.

After I left SHV in '82, they had one night when they quite a few diversions from DFW because of wx. They were able to park the DC-9s and 727s at the gates of course, but, IIRC, they had a couple of Tristars, too. They had to park those on the taxiway because the ramp wouldn't hold that much weight. I'm assuming they fueled those first to enable them to leave first when they got the ok because they were blocking the access to the runway. I was told that all the DL gates were full as well as DL's ramp area.

You are correct sir, and I should have known better as there was a DL 738 parked at C8 when I left BHM two days ago. They often will park two to three CRJ/ERJ aircraft at C2 when things are tight.

No longer, as I noticed that the NW jets are now sharing space on the Delta side, and the jetways have been removed from B3 and B5. Why, I have not a clue...

Hmmm... I noticed most of the NW signage had been taken down when I was there in April, but I didn't realize the jetways had been removed also. I'm guessing they were removed because BHM has never, as far as I know, had as many jetways as they've had gates, so the former NW jetways have probably been moved to other gates.

here in BHM, delta uses C2, C4, C6, C8
As of April 1st, NW ticketing and gates moved to Concourse C with Delta.
Delta also uses C7 and C9 as overflow gates at night.
The NW jetbridges were removed and taken away.....dont know where.

No you dont know.....the only gates without jetways are B4, C2, C7 and C9........the old NW jetways are not on any other gates.

HSV uses the FBO ramp.We have had a lot more than 6 Delta diversions at time and get Airtran also along with other carriers at times.

Delta uses C2, C4, C6, and C8. There is remote parking available, and 2 RON's park at C7 and C9 at night. These are towed over in the morning.

Also, the only diversion that came in on Friday, was DL 688 - GDL-ATL. It was due to fuel and MX.

On Saturday was the crazy day in ATL 42 total planes diverted for mainlines and 30+ planes in the ATL area. That was one long night or everyone I'm sure.

I figured that two (one assumes) perfectly good, working jetways would be put to use on other gates that had no jetways or would simply be left in place until they're needed rather than being removed to an unknown location. My mistake.  duck

B3 and B5 were consolidated during the merger. The jetbridges are gone. Rumor is, that CO might be taking that space??? Who knows in this airport!
