DFW Airport will raise parking rates in October

With fewer people using Dallas-Fort Worth Airport's parking lots, the airport has decided to raise parking rates starting in October.

The airport's board, which met on Friday to approve the fiscal year 2010 operating budget, agreed to boost some parking rates from $1 to $3 depending on the type of parking.

The board also approved a fifty-cent increase in taxicab, limousine, bus and courtesy vehicle access charges.

The parking fee changes include:

-Terminal 2 to 3 hours increasing to $4, up from $3

-Terminal 3 to 6 hours increasing to $6, up from $5

-Expressed Covered increasing to $12, up from $11.

-Remote Parking increasing to $8, up from $7

-Eliminating Infield parking, which was $14 and charging the same $17 rate as Terminal Covered Parking.

The remaining parking rates, such as the $2 pass-thru rate, were unchanged.

We are seeing a similar rate increase here at IAH. One full day is jumping from $15.00 to $18.00.

More reason to use "The Parking Spot"

As a native of the DFW metroplex, I have to say that DFW is the worst airport I've ever encountered when it comes to driving and parking. Not only are access roads WRETCHEDLY HORRIBLE, the fees are simply insane.
Now that I live out of state, my family often times picks me up at the airport during holiday visits. And they have to PAY CASH MONEY to come get me! $2 to pick someone up? That's just stupid.
And now they're raising rates for parking???

Yes, because GOODNESS KNOWS, the best way to stimulate demand is to.... raise prices.

Indeed. Screw DFW.

It's not like no one has heard about the MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN PROFIT the airport is making from the new oil wells. Exactly what about that requires more income from parking lots?

Screw it- I'm sticking with Love Field from now on. Much more pleasant airport all around anyhow.

Indeed, I avoid DFW like the plague though not for parking, as I a Houston resident.

Exactly.

Unless you're in a real rush and have to drive right up to the terminal parking and run into the terminal, I don't know why anyone wouldn't use Parking Spot or one of the other countless off-airport parking alternatives that are readily available.

I know - that made me laugh. This is so stupid. If less people are using your service, that's a signal that it's overpriced, not the other way around.

It's as if DFW is just trying to price themselves out of the market - which, I must say, may not be such a bad idea. It may be worth DFW's research to determine whether or not it would be more economical to just do away with all of the remote parking and just focus on the infield and terminal parking, which has far lower costs. Since DFW's competition is from the off-airport parking anyway, which competes with their remote lots, not terminal, it may be smarter to just call that market lost and let the off-airport guys handle it. They could focus instead on the time-sensitive travelers who use the terminal parking in a rush. And think of how much money they would save by being able to get rid of all of those buses, bus drivers, etc.
