Jetstar is to trial a scanner that will scan a SMS text message on any mobile phone, replacing the boarding pass. Unlike other mobile phone check in services this does not require a graphic barcode or an iPhone specifically.

OMG this s so c%l! But seriously, it's nice not to have to print out your boarding pass for online check in as this can be quite difficult when you are travelling without access to a printer. As the article points out - all these check in systems need to be combined with visual identification of the passenger if you really want security. But how often are you checked when flying domestically?
