A friend of mine, who is a mechanic at Delta, and whom is in charge of C checks in ATL told me that the last Delta L-1011, I believe it is N728DL, will be painted in the new Delta colors. I am not positive about this, if he was joking or not, but it sure would be a great send off.

Last DL L1011 to be off the fleet, not wasting paint on a retiring trijet.....

That would be awesome, to see an L1011 in those colors.

This is the aircraft (N728DA) that rumor has it will be the last L10 in Delta's fleet.

Just like TWA, it has printed a new colour tristar even they will retired it soon.
So, may be DL will do it.

A friend of mine went by the hanger yesterday. The aircraft is being stripped of paint and looks to be being repainted, but to what color scheme is anyones guess. The last route will be PBI-ATL.

It would be painted in the new 'wavy gravy' scheme if it was going to be repainted.

Does anyone know why 728 will be the last? And not 735 as far as the -1s go? Especially since 729, 731, & 732 are already gone...And When will the last -250 go?
On another note, has anyone seen Deltas website? Someone should tell their Webmaster that they dont have -100s, that they are -1s!

I think that L1011 was being stripped of its paint, placards, and details and being readied for retirement!

It would be a great send off, for a plane that has given Delta stirling service over a long time.

Actually, when they retire then L1011, they just take some rollers and paint over the titles... AFAIK, they don't strip any paint off.

Where on delta.com do they talk about L1011-100's? All I could find was at this link:

That's crazy that they would spend the money to paint it. I'll have to see it to believe it. And all they do when it's retired is remove the logo and name.

There are no L1011 in ATL main hangers for any maintenance. right now a 757 is being painted, the tail hasn't been painted yet just the white. Friday an MD-88 is due in for strip and paint. I don't know what your friend saw but it wasn't an L1011 being stripped for painting. It might have been the last retirement and that is already gone. BTW there are no L1011 in line for paint. Mostly MD88 for the next six month. And no they don't get painted at major maintenance visits.

I'm curious why Delta's 767-200's paint jobs are so long in the tooth? Only one or two of them have been painted in the interim scheme, and all of the others have badly needed paint for over 2 years! What's the schedule for their repainting?

I know the big push was to get the international 767 fleet painted out of the oldested livery. I belive they are all in either the Ron or Leo colors now. Most of them were done under contract by Boeing at PAE. The current plan I have accesses to dosn't show any thing listed for PAE for the upcoming months. The current posted list extends into Sept I think.

It would really be nice to see the last L1011 painted in the 'Deltaflot' colors. I'd even like to have seen one in the Mid-90s livery. The L1011 is a dying breed, the only other U.S. airline that operates them in scheduled passenger service is ATA, and they look pretty good in their newer livery. But alas, these will be gone in several years time, as ATA is replacing them with 757-300s. I guess the only way we'll probably see a Delta L1011 in the new colors is in the pages of Delta's inflight magazine (there is an drawing of one in the magazine). Does anyone know if any of the MD-11s will be in the 'Deltaflot' liveries?

I bet it's being painted in the Caledonian Wings livery, ready for the operation of the new airline.

The Captain on DL flight from Orlando told me the last flight was going to be between Orlando and Atlanta. Why do you think PBI-ATL?

I hope that none of the tristars get any new paint schemes. They should be allowed to retire in the paint scheme they were in when they were Deltas flagship aircraft. I think too many people forget that they were Delta's pride and joy for 25 years, before the 76 or 777. Let them wear the new paint. I think the L10s should go out wearing what they wore when they were king.
