Hi Everyone,

I have tried to book a flight through the Aerolineas Argentinas website and without paying I have recieved a confirmation email for the return flights from Buenos Aires to Iguazu. In fact I have done it twice, because the first time I thought it was a joke so I did it again and it still hasn't asked me to pay anywhere. Here are the flight details:

Buenos Aires to Iguazu
Flight 1 Saturday, September 12, 2009
confirmed
Departure: 09:10 Buenos Aires, Argentina - Jorge Newbery
Arrival: 10:55 Iguazu, Argentina - Cataratas
Airline: Aerolineas Argentinas AR2742
Aircraft: MC Donnell Douglas MD-83
Operated by Austral Lineas Aereas
Fare type: Flex Tango/Economy Restricted
Baggage: 15 kilogram(s) per traveller

Iguazu to Buenos Aires
Flight 1 Monday, September 14, 2009
confirmed
Departure: 11:35 Iguazu, Argentina - Cataratas
Arrival: 13:25 Buenos Aires, Argentina - Jorge Newbery
Airline: Aerolineas Argentinas AR2743
Aircraft: MC Donnell Douglas MD-83
Operated by Austral Lineas Aereas
Fare type: Flex Tango/Economy Restricted
Baggage: 15 kilogram(s) per traveller

Amount for all passengers
327.60 GBP amount for all passengers

Can anyone inform me if this is real? Or what is happening?
Cheers

Hello

What it has done has made a reservation which must be paid within a certain time before it expires. Think you have 48 hours maybe longer....it should say this on your reservation which was sent via email / you printed out.

I see you are from Australia (given the flag)...if you booked this flight in the Argentina website and you are not Argentine or are a resident they will deny you boarding. Flights on the AR website are for Argentine residents only keep in mind...

Hope this helps

Mark

Was as surprised as you when I went through this (booked Buenos Aires to Ushuaia in Argentina). Realized a few minutes after that I hadn't been asked to pay. However, you have to pay in an AR office or through the phone (I had to go to their nearest office as paying by phone didn't work) to complete the reservation.

Cf above, it worked for me but I probably paid a higher price than a local would have paid.

What you did was making a reservation. You didn't buy a ticket.
A PNR was created holding your reservation details, a seat has been taken from AR inventory, and as you will be a revenue passenger you will carry the status "Confirmed" (as opposed to "Waitlist" or "Space Available"). That's the only thing you did.

Now to actually travel, your PNR will also need a ticket number. And this is what you miss. You will need to pay the requested amount to get a ticket issued, only after which you will be able to travel on that particular PNR.

Yeah a bit complicated. The reservation is for my parents, a German and an Australian who live in the UK so I have gone through the UK branch of the AR website and been charged in pounds. Is this okay?

Great, I thought I had got away with it but surely there was something wrong. So I just have to call in and give the credit card details? Thats fine.

Thanks a lot for all the help!

I booked all domestic flights in Argentina through Expedia! They had the same fares as the AR website...

Cheers

I tried that, spoke to someone but she couldn't manage to make it work. As I was in Buenos Aires, she indicated to me the closest AR office and I paid there. I don't kno why she couldn't / wouldn't let me pay by phone.

You're right. I had booked 4 domestic flights: 3 on Expedia but the EZE-USH wasn't available on Expedia for some reason so I had to go through AR.

Come to think of it, Qantasistheway, the best thing may be to book through Expedia or similar rather than AR, especially if it's a hassle to pay by phone.

Yes thats perfectly ok - the non Argentine resident factor would have been considered into the price.

Possible true as domestic travel in Argentina is so very expensive. Did you get these prices from the NZ AR website or actually on the Argentina page?

They cant handle foreign credit cards over the phone for some reason. Usually because it asks for a bank (i.e the issuer and it just gets too complicated for them!!)

Listen to this man - you'll tear your hair out with AR!!
