Today Midway Airlines announced it will Become a Partner in both Continental Airlines OnePass and Northwest Airlines WorldPerks Frequent Flyer Programs.

The partnership starts May 1st. And those who are OnePass and WorldPerks Platinum, Gold and Silver Elite members will enjoy a wide range of Elite benefits when traveling on Midway, including unlimited space available upgrades, mileage bonuses, priority check-in and priority boarding privileges. The miles flown on Midway Flights will also count toward elite qualification in either OnePass(R) or WorldPerks(R).

Very good news for me, since I'm a CO OnePass member.

What do you all think?

Will they continue to be a part of AAdvantage? If so, they at least have a fair marketing advantage over Southwest as they fight their incursion at RDU.

Now I can finally use my Continental miles on them (and start earning some too!)!

Midway just keeps getting better and better all the time!

I don't know if this marketing allience will work, but only time will tell. From their most recent report they seem to be holding their own in RDU. They've been managing anywhere from 60-70% load factors, which isn't impressive, but it's above average. That means that most of their planes are going out almost full.

I can't wait to fly them again. I'm so excited that they've started service to PVD.

Logos,

Midway will be discontinuing it's alliance with AAdvantage as of April 30th. I'm sure this was the main reasoning behind Midway dancing with CO/NW now. American Airlines frequent fliers can still claim an award on Midway for up to a year.

One of the articles points the fingers at AA's pilots, they opposed their airline's request to extend the agreement with Midway because they saw it as a threat to their job security. Hmm...

That sounds GREAT! NW/CO is building quite an extensive list of partners.Maybe this is a lead up to the Wings alliance.

Domestically I think Wings would be:

Northwest
Continental
Alaska
Midway
Hawaiin
Possibly America West and
Possibly Midwest Express

With international partners:

KLM
Alitalia
Malaysian
Japan Air System
Air China
Braathens
Jet Airways
Garuda

Now that is starting to look like a GREAT alliance!

That is great news for people like myself who put all my miles into CO and fly mainly only on CO, NW, HP, and now Midway is an option if I need to fly down to Florida and connect in a relatively easy airport in RDU. Midways new 73G's are very nice, and hopefully I can fly on one soon with their Carolina Class service!

Logos,

Well, you have a year... time to start spending!

NWA747-400:

I would add Frontier to the domestic list and maybe Emirates to the international list?

I think Malaysian is going SkyTeam...

Malaysian has a pretty extensice code shar agreement with both NW and KL.

KL pulled outof Australia to allow Malaysia to pick passengers for them.

Emirates huh? Where did you hear that? That is a good airline.

Frontier? Where did you hear that?

Sounds great. I bet Midway will be moving to the new Concourse C in FLL along with CO and NW now that they have this marketing agreement. This would benefit DL also in that Midway currently occupies one gate on DL's Concourse D at FLL and DL needs this space to expand their ever growing DL Express presence. Anyway, Congrats to Midway and their employees and customers--this is good news for them (as well as CO and NW).

No.

Correct. Letter Y of current AA/APA contract states: "The Company will not, without the concurrence of APA: 1. Extend either the Miday or Reno AAdvantage Agreements beyond April 30, 2001.

APA's "leadership" has shown that for the past 10+ years it will not agree to anything beneficial to "AA management" without being forced into doing so by outside third parties.

>...because they saw it as a threat to their job security. Hmm...

It may not have a sound economic basis, but that is the official APA "leadership" position.

They do have a mileage partnership with CO even though they introduced EasyReturns.

NWA747-400:

Frontier currently participates with OnePass. In fact, until they introduced EasyReturns, OnePass was their 'program'.

Continental and Emirates just announced an expansion of their partnership. I believe both participants in both airlines can both earn and redeem in each other's programs.
