I understand LIM gets a lot of fog. This should help:

It will help if Lan Peru / LAN and TACA aircraft&crew are/will be certified to conduct ILS Cat. III approaches.

I fly there about 15-20 times/yr. Frequent low ceilings and coastal fogs on approach...a bit like LAX.

Lima has a subtropical and desert climate and rainfall is very low.
The airport is placed in El Callao and influenced by the Pacific Ocean as it makes the atmosphere very humid throughout the year. It produces brief morning fog and persistent low clouds.
LAX may certainly get similar weather conditions trying to compare it with LIM.

Regards.

LAN's aircraft and crews are certified to conduct ILS Category III approaches since both runways 17R/35L and 17L/35R at SCL are capable of ILS CAT III approaches.

According to Jeppesen last revision of SCL, only 17L is CAT IIII
