As of today at BOM:
Star - NH (NRT), LH (FRA, MUC), LX (ZRH), TK (IST), MS (CAI), SQ (SIN), SA (JNB), TG (BKK)
Skyteam - DL/NW (ATL, AMS), KQ (NBO), AF (CDG), CO (EWR), KE (ICN)
Fast forward to 2010..
Star - NH (NRT), LH (FRA, MUC), LX (ZRH), TK (IST), MS (CAI), SQ (SIN), SA (JNB), TG (BKK) + CO (EWR), FM (PVG), AI (DXB, FRA, HKG, JED, LHR, NBO, JFK, EWR, KIX, CDG, RUH, NRT, DOH, BAH)
Skyteam - DL/NW (AMS), KQ (NBO), AF (CDG), KE (ICN)
Oneworld is and will be a big and strong player in the BOM market (BA, CX, QF, RJ, AY starting this Oct.) No major changes expected. 9W has strong relations with Oneworld.
Several Mid-East airlines like EK, QR, KU and GF are strong too and offer good connections to USA.
Domestic network is not considered here. With 9W inclining towards OW, Skyteam will have zero domestic presence unless IT joins Skyteam.
The future looks very bleak for Skyteam at BOM. Any comments?

In terms of the future being bleak, the only change for Skyteam is the removal of CO from their ranks. Otherwise they're pretty much the same as of this year.
*A may grow substantially (when AI gets around to joining *A), but that's more of a *A gain than a Skyteam loss.

If you take India as a whole Star has better connectivity both in terms of destinations as well as number of flights, one world follows next, skyteam has always and will be a marginal player.

Not just CO.
DL is dropping the nonstop to ATL as well.

I dont think Skyteam will Always be marginal. All they need to do is to sweeten the pot for one of the 3 major Indian carriers and maybe add a middle east carrier to the mix and that region will be Well connected by them.

Being that GF doesn't fly to the US anymore, I'd say they offer zero connectivity. KU is marginal at best. I'd take those two out and add in EY who is obviously shaping up to be a strong contender.

Star is strong across India not only because AI might (eventually) join *A but also because of LH SQ and TG
That said one can argue the strongest airline in India is the decidedly non-alliance EK (9W and IT are both FFP partners)
FM stopped operations to BOM. In your AI list you could add DMM, SIN, AUH, KWI as they operate under AI code and by next year many IC international flights will have AI codes.

Are you talking about AI, 9W and IT?
If so, AI is joining Star
9W - We do not know yet. Oneworld is pitching for 9W strongly
IT - Most likely to join Skyteam. But not sure of its financial health. Rumors it may go bankrupt

IT recently joined the Global Explorer fare - this is sometimes , but not necessarily , a precursor to OW membership ( eg IB joined the global explorer before coming on board and S7 has joined the global explorer fare as well ) . It is interesting the 9W did not join the global explorer , if they were looking seriously at OW then they would have been a more logical carrier to add to this fare .
Moderation in all things ... including moderation ;-)
Not a surprise, given they are competing against SQ,9W,AI now and very soon with IT as well all of them having daily flights and SQ having 11 weekly flights.
Also QF is already having a code share with 9W for all its flights to Oz via SIN, so a BOM-SIN-BNE doesn't make much sense IMO.

The 9W/QF tie-up works great if you are not in BOM, but QF has been trying to promote its fares in India big-time, but with disasterous PR Australia has been getting in India, pretty much ever since the Sydney Test Match in late 2007 and now the 'Student Attacks' fiasco, can't be helping QF much at all.

hahaha.... love the way you relate QF to the Sydney test match.
