Edmonton, we’ve struck it rich!

Join us to welcome a great non-stop destination to the EIA family:
Monday, August 17, 1 p.m.
Edmonton City Hall

(It’s a secret now, but here’s a hint: …our flying pipeline will mix oil with oil.)

See you there: interviews with key leaders including Mayor Stephen Mandel, a photo opportunity, and a ‘let’s get down to business’ celebration to make this one of the most successful routes in EIA history!

Is this Houston again? Seems weird that they would have a big celebration for Houston.

IAH would be a reasonable guess, question is will it be AC or CO that operates the route. No doubt the start-up date would likely be when CO enters Star Alliance late October. If AC operates the route I would think it may be out of range of the CRJ 705 and I don't see them putting on a E90,so that would probably mean CO and one of their B737. I suspect the route would start with an overnight in YEG allowing various inbound and outbound connections in IAH .

It's Continental Airlines returning to the Edmonton Market with a 737-500.

Depart Edmonton 6:40am Arriving in Houston at 11:56am
Depart Houston 6:00pm Arriving in Edmonton at 9:45pm

Much better sked than last time.

Maybe it's just me, but those timings seem extremely inconvenient for the passenger (especially one who isn't connecting). The 0640 departure means you'll have to leave home around 0400 and on the return I assume you would get home around midnight.

Then again, there are a few other U.S. flights with similar timings, so I guess there are people who take advantage of it.

What is even more confusing is the available connection in Edmonton. Those times do not lead to connecting on Air Canada to head North at all.

Quoting Flyb (Reply 4):

I'm sure the connecting folks can be routed through YYC. I doubt too many Houston pax will be trying to get beyond Edmonton!

Flying in the middle seat of coach is much better than not flying at all!

I wonder if CO is going to start flying to YUL again from IAH due to Star connections?

Actually a lot of passengers are headed to Fort Mc Murray, just seems like a prime option considering YEG has so many flights north.

It's slightly surprising that there's nothing in that press release about working together with Air Canada. Perhaps CO is still not permitted to mention that because they are still in the SkyTeam alliance?

I'm a little suprised to see CO heading to YEG, I think it would be better to start a YMM-IAH route since both cities are big in Oil. The reason for YYC-IAH is because most of the big oil companies are based in Calgary, Edmonton doesn't really have the same business that Calgary has. With the flight arriving so late in the evening, it doesn't much of a chance to connect to any flights heading to Fort McMurray, and heading out you would have to stay overnight in Edmonton befroe heading back early in the morning to Houston. Connecting through Calgary gives passengers a better chance to catch flights heading up north with 4 flights alone in the afternoon with AC. It will be interesting to see how the loads will be for this route.

Houston is one of the main O&D destinations from Edmonton I am pretty sure there is a tonne more demand for that route than to YMM.

Based on the timings of these flights,it's clear that CO see YEG as an O&D market. I imagine it's possible that if demand warrants you will see additional frequencies that would allow connections which YYC currently provides to all the destinations worth mentioning. I foresee AC codesharing on this route come November.

The original route was in 2003
Depart Edmonton at 7:15 a.m. Arriving in Houston at 12:35 p.m.
Depart Houston at 5:20 p.m. Arriving in Edmonton at 8:55 p.m

Then it was changed to something like this, which killed the route:
Depart Edmonton at 12:55am Arriving in Houston at 6:15am
Depart Houston at 9:35pm Arriving in Edmonton at 11:55pm
