It's hard to get the aircraft types without a timetable, but departedflights.com has a section on defunct hubs, and July 1996 might be on there. Check it out, N702ML runs it.
Since you are specifically asking about July 1996,
Here is the breakdown from Delta's timetable effective June 1, 1996 thru September 30, 1996 (I have included only Delta flights, NOT SkyWest/Delta Connection flights):

Is that the timetable with the slogan "Olympic Dreams, Delta Wings" and a picture of 767 ship 102's tail in the Olympic paint scheme on the cover?

Correct, FAT-LAX went completely to Skywest in 1995.

Amen! I wish I could fly an L10 down the coast to SAN as the sun sets. It makes no business sense, of course . . .

Yup. May 1st to be exact. Worked for Delta on the ramp up until that point and so the other change was that they contracted out the ramp. Ticket agents remained Delta though.
I seem to remember when working for Skywest in 1998 that the Delta Connection LAX flights dropped down to about 3 daily but I can't quite recall.
Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.

I loved their LAX-PVR service back when they flew it with the 72S. By then, it was slowly disappearing.
It was nice when they had two daily LAX-MEX flights too. Those were the days.
What years did they fly their transpacific flights from LAX?
Did anyone ever fly DL's hourly shuttle LAX-SFO? It was a nice service on 73S. They served those lunch box snacks like US did (but better).
