I was reading an article at Aviationnow.com about Swissair and their attempts to cut costs and return to profitability. I was reading their company profile and learned that in 1998 they had a profit of $240M (USD) and then the following year they posted a $70M loss. Can anyone with reliable industry information explain the sudden downturn? What changes need to be made in order to "right the ship"?

Thanks in advance...

Most of their losses come from their investments in other airlines...Sabena, AOM, Air Liberte.
