Canada 3000 History Question

I was just wondering what kinds of Aircrafts C3 had a long time a go. I think they were called something else, maybe air 2000?? I think I went to St. Kitts on a 757, I was just wondering if there were any other aircraft in their fleet at that time,

C3K started as Air 3000 in 1988, it was owned by the Deluce Family which had purchased something sort of a "franchise" agreement with Air 2000 of Manchester. Both airlines had the same livery and shared aircrafts (757s) depending on the season.

The name Air 3000 was short lived because the federal government for some reason did not accept the name. So therefore the name was switched to Canada 3000 and has been ever since.

At the time of inital operations in 1988, they only had 757s. The A320 came into service with C3K around 1993/4 and currently C3K operates 8 A320s, 6 757-200ERs and 4 A330-200s. Canada 3000 was the first airline in the world to operate the A330-200 which all 4 are leased from ILFC.

Now that C3K has merged with Royal Airlines and Canjet, that brings 2 additional aircraft types into the fleet, the Airbus A310 from Royal and the 737-200 from Canjet and Royal. However don't look for the A310 and 732 to stay around much longer because C3K is considering replacing those planes (primilarly the 732)with the A319 (they've got an order for 8 A319s but may order some more) and may lease additional A330-200s, although that may not happen. Definetly expect to see additional A319s added as well as perhaps A320s.

There are no plans to replace the 757 at present, the 757 has good use for C3K. The A321 may be considered a 757 replacement but it doesn't have the range that the 757-200ERs have.

So to answer your question, you'll have to tell me when you flew to St. Kitts. As far as I know, C3K uses both the A320 and 757 so you may have been on either one.

Thanks a lot, the trip to St. Kitts was....when I was ten....1988!!!!

I remember sitting in the very back of the aircraft for the ride home.

I am a big fan of C3, TS, the old QN, Sky Service, West Jet and all of the other canadain carriers. I know quite a bit, but I was just wondering about the old C3

I guess it was the 757 that took us there. Would you say that C3 was a sucess and other airlines starting should look at how they were successful....ie Roots Air!

Grant, RootsAir does not have to look towards Canada 3000 for success. Nice suggestion, but have you ever flown on Skyservice? Our charter service is outstanding and our flights are always full. We are well respected in the charter industry and just because Skyservice decided to keep it's fleet smaller, please do not think that we don't know how to be successful. Skyservice has 3 divisions, a charter division, a medevac division and the Sporthawk.

We also have wonderful profit sharing cheques and bonuses at the end of each year. RootsAir will flourish under it's own umbrella. Yes, Canada 3000 has been successful, I used to fly with them when they were Air 2000 (still have my name badge). They started with 2 B-757's and have grown.

Lets remember how old they are, double the age of Skyservice. Their strategy is different than SSV and so are their meal portions (smaller). Notwithstanding this RootsAir is just fine the way we are. We have a solid group of partners and despite the announcement C-3 made last week re American Airlines.... they are paying AA a percentage of each ticket sold to be able to utilize AA's flyer plan, something RootsAir does not have to do because we are already a part of a strong alliance of partners.

I wish Canada 3000 all the luck as they take on Air Canada. Competition is good, let's wait and see what happens, but remember Air Canada knocked Canadian out of the sky and they will not take lightly to Canada 3000 honing in on their frequency and routes.

Hey Thanks for the update, I never did see you on city line?

I think that the numbers show that the 330 is too soon, The 320's make the most sense when they are selling tickets at a reduced price, if you saw what I wrote in the 330 posting to big too soon.

Actually, it never happend. We did the 2 radio interviews and the photo shoot at T-3. Strange, I saw our pictures in the Calgary Herald in a RootsAir Ad 3 days ago. (Gee I should get royalties) ha! ha!. I think the pics are pretty much in a lot of the ads. I'm looking out for them in the YYZ papers. I agree with you about the 330's. I hear they are adding another 320 onto the YVR route, so this should take care of the feeders. As I said, it's going to be an interesting summer, wish I had a crystal ball!! Cheers!
