I have a question regarding AF & KL ground handling.
- Who does the actual handling of KLM flights in the USA? I know in the past NW handled KLM wherever possible in the USA and KLM did the same for NW in AMS. Since the merger the original DL flights ex-AMS are now also handled by KLM Ground Services. I don't know if DL has any of their own employees in AMS. KLM did have a dedicated NW team at AMS handling only NW flights, but in KLM uniform of course.
At LHR AF & KL both had their own ground handling company (KLM Ground Services & AFSL) and they merged them to form Cobalt Ground Solutions (also at LCY). Cobalt now handles DL/NW.
I myself have a background working as an CSA in AUA. I worked with a third party handling agent team SkyTeam. We handled CO, DL & KL. We had the uniform for each airline. Later I went on to work for KLM (also in AUA). I find the ground handling aspect very interesting.

Thanks! Did DL have its own employees in AMS as far as you know? And if they did, did KLM absorb them (like with MP)? Or were they handled by Mezies/Aviapartner? And what about the DL ticket office at SPL?
Oh yeah... one last question. Do you guys still handle everything in Codeco?

Quoting SK601 (Reply 1): depends on the station. For ex. LAX + EWR it's NW, ATL + ORD it's ServiceAir, if I'm not mistaken.
I know that DL ground handles KLM @ ATL, as they handle the majority of international flights on E (The exceptions being FL's CUN flight, most of the military charters, and IIRC, the NW flights as well until DL and NW ops are merged.). Servisair does not currently list ATL as a location in the US in which they have operations.

Is DAL Global Services Delta Airlines handling?
DAL Global Services is a subsidiary, but I'm not sure if they do any ground handling at ATL anymore, they were doing HP/US West flights until US consolidated all of their flights to the gates US East operates out of. At a number of outstations, DAL Global Services is the ground handler for DL, Delta Connection, and other airlines. At the hubs, DAL Global's presence is not as great.

Most of the KL flights in North America handled by NW were contracted out in late 2003 early 2004. Most of these stations still use PARS in North America and will be using Deltamatic soon. Rumor has it NW(DL) will get this work back sometime soon and AF as well.

AFAIK DGS only does the SkyCaps in Atlanta.

At one point, NW ground handled (below wing) all KL flights in the US except IAH, SFO & ATL. As noted above, most went away a few years ago, but were still handled above wing by NW. That too may have changed in the meantime.
IIRC, NW only works the ramp for KL in LAX now...
